"Well, I'm glad you want me to be your mate but why do you need to go alone to settle whatever it is you need to settle?" I asked, moving up beside her and looking down at her.

Felene muffled the squeal when he stepped up to her. She froze for a moment, then took an awkward step back. Suddenly, the thought of what she had left behind, and what she wanted to do, weighed on her. "Because I need too." She said seriously, surprising herself. Even if she hurt his feelings a bit, he would be fine...right? "I can't play house all day long, I'm not going to put down all my things." As soon as the words were out of her mouth, she glanced at her bag. It was safe in a corner. She knew that she hadn't done anything bold are useful since she made a den in the forest. She was almost lying to him, or was she telling a half truth? Turning around, she breathed deeply once she was a few feet away. "I'll be back soon, don't worry about me." She reassured.

I wanted to follow her but I thought better of it. I knew Felene wanted to take care of it herself.

Felene was aware that she could easily slip off and get captured without him knowing. Having such trust in her made her feel...weird; but then it made her feel fearful that she might let him down. Spreading out her wings, she made sure that she had ate enough to not feel bloated, while giving her enough energy to cover a good distance in one night. Could she really reach her home in just one night? She didn't answer her question and flapped them, making her rise. Giving a few more faster ones, she quickly gained speed. The den where Shadow was was in the back of her mind. Now, something important to her was in danger. Her vials, powders, and herbs that she had gathered and searched for years were on the ground, being eaten by bugs and birds. She cringed at the thought of her most prized possessions being ripped apart.

I went back to my deer leg and awaited Felene's return.

Felene had made steady progress at her speed, but she felt like her wings were becoming heavy. It made her flying shaky and hard. She had landed on one of the branches of a Great Oak. She put her wings at her sides and started to sniff. "Nothing around here." She mumbled, knowing she smelled birds. Her stomach was just about empty, but she might be able to make it in faster time to her den. A bird hunt would probably fail or it would cost her hours. She heard shuffling around her, and heard something move. Something big. Turning around she could see a giant birds, and it's egg. It noticed her too and gave a loud squawk. She felt bad for the bird, and for it's unborn young. Setting aside her sympathy, she quickly jumped off her branch and landed on it's branch, causing it to shake. It gave out more squawks, then the father joined too. The circled around her, until one tried to peck at her. She lunged at it, keeping her balance while swallowing the bird in her mouth. The other bird flew away for an unknown reason. Looking at the eggs, she sniffed them, moving them about a bit, then grabbed all 4 of them. She enjoyed them, surprisingly without guilt. By the time she had made it to her branch and had rested, her eyes were weary. The sun was coming down into the sky as well.

I kept eating.

Felene awoke groggily the next morning, and turned her head away. The sun was just now coming up, but even now it still hurt her eyes. She felt content, at least hunger wise. Getting up, she clutched the branch, feeling a long stretch coming on. She hooked her claws in it, just barely in time for her to spread her massive wings. She took a big yawn, but didn't allow herself to get too sleepy. To jar herself awake, she crouched down quickly and leaped off the branch. Catching the winds behind her, she quickly went at her fastest speed. If she was fast enough, she would get to her den quickly.

I woke up and stretched, my huge black wings stretching out. Then I sat back down and looked around my den, noticing Felene wasn't back yet.

Felene had made it back to her den, and was surprised to find everything intact. It had only been nudged by the abductors, but they had taken a few things. "Nothing too valuable." She sighed in relief. Gathering up a few packs, she put everything carefully inside, until she had barely managed to stuff a fur in there. The weight felt kinda heavy, but it would slow her down. She left quickly, not spending that much time. It was almost sun high. "Am I ready to settle down now?" She asked herself, even having a troubled expression. She still felt that sense of restlessness, and she wanted to move to new places, and explore. She also had to settle the score with those dragon abductors. She knew where they came from, but she couldn't leave her things. Moving at the fastest speed she dared, she was already halfway home. But this was just one part of her journey completed.

I grabbed another piece of deer, wondering when Felene was coming back.

Felene had rested on the same Great Oak branch yesterday, except it creaked. She felt it go out from underneath her, and she muttered something. Pulling out her wings, she managed not to lose too much height. The branches looked uncomfortably sharp down below her. She landed on a sturdier looking branch and stretched out her limbs, knowing it was going to make her exhaustion worse, but did it anyway. Her eyelids came down for a breath second, but her constant reminder to stay balanced on the branch kept her awake. She jumped off, forcing herself to stay awake. She could see the den now, and she was exhausted. Landing too quickly, her claws cut up the soil underneath. She let out a surprised squeak and slammed into a nearby tree, causing her to become slightly out-of-it.

I paced uneasily, worring why Felene wasn't back yet.

Felene's head felt heavy, like a tree trunk. She angled it, looking at the den opening. Putting her leg out, she pushed herself towards the opening. She felt that she should feel embarrassed, crawling on the ground like a snake. She dragged herself through the opening, her head hitting the ground. It seemed to be a lot higher then what she thought it was. With her eyes closed, her wings twitched at her sides. She slid off one of the bags, then another, until they laid at her side. She hoped that it didn't seem as bad as she thought it was. Some blood was smeared on her cheek, and another on her thigh.

Worry gripped my heart as I tried to decide if I would go after Felene or not.

Felene wondered if she should call him or not. He might not like what she had to do next, but his approval wasn't necessary. She would go anyway. But she couldn't think of what she would do if he tried to stop them. She pushed herself, knowing that she might not do it in the future. "Shadow!" She called out, hoping he would answer.

I heard Felene's call and shot out of the den and raced across the sky. I soon saw her and went down in front of her. "You called me, Felene?"

"Yeah I just forgot where the den was." She answered, though she knew where it was. Her mind was about to fuss about the lie, when she opened her wings and flew out towards the den entrance, carrying her packs. Once there she looked around, a habit that she had developed. She went into the den quickly, her eyes adjusting to the light. She ran to the closest corner to the nest and put her things down there, while at the same time looking around. "Where's the food?" She asked to no one in particular.

I waited for Felene, hovering just above the entrance of her den.

Felene looked around, looking for Shadow. Had something happened to him? She poked her head out of the den and saw him. "Where's the food?" She asked, careful not to make eye contact with him. It would make it harder later, she thought.

"I left it back at the other den." I replied, unsure if she was talking about this den or the other one.

Felene stared at him for a moment, confused. Then she let out a huff. "Just put these things at the den where were first in okay?" She asked, going back inside and grabbing all of the bags. Placing them by his foot, she looked behind him. "I might be able to stay for tonight, but I have something I sorta need to do before ummm...yeah." She muttered awkwardly, not sure if he could hear her.

"Okay." I replied then obeyed. When I was finished I went back over to Felene, having heard her comment. "Just do what you have to do. But can I at least come with you next time?" I said.

Felene could feel her stomach growl, but she ignored it. She bit her tongue, but not too hard. "You probably uh...couldn't...I guess..." She muttered, ignoring the constant noise coming from inside of her. She blushed as her stomach growled louder, probably loud enough for Shadow to hear. "I just nee-" She was interrupted as she gasped, falling on her sides. She squirmed on the ground, feet holding over her stomach. "F-food." She whispered out as she closed her eyes, trying to cope with the pain in her stomach.
