"I hope you don't mind my feelings." I said, my gaze hopeful and soft, searching his.

Phoenix grunted. "Eh. I'm used to it." he scratched his side once more, tongue falling out of his mouth. "I had a mate back at my pack." He let out a loving sigh. "Oh, she was beautiful..."

"She's lucky to have had a mate that cared. I never did." I whined, my gaze turning to the sunset. "Denahi used me for power." I growled.

In the morning, I awoke before Phoenix and I yawned lightly. I got on my paws and trotted to the near by river, and looked at my reflection. My instincts were telling me to sing, for a male that loved me once said I was an amazing singer. And so I started to sing.

Phoenix covered his head as he heard singing. "Keep it down, will you?" he shouted, growling.

My ears dropped down, and I padded off into the river. But as something grabbed my paw, I yowled and scurried out with a snarl.

Phoenix followed her, yawning. Suddenly, she snarled. "What's wrong with you?" he demanded.

"Nothing. Something just grabbed my paw." I told him calmly, my gaze on the river.

[Blackberry]

Phoenix snorted and turned his back. "The fish are out to get you," he said coldly.

[P r o m i s e r]

"No, Phoenix. It was jaws, not tiny teeth." I growled lightly, brushing my side on his. "Not that you care." I whined, padding away.

[Blackberry]

"Oh, you're so soft!" he snarled at her. "Why do you care if I care about you or not? You're just my stupid travel companion, that's all."

My heart snapped in 2, and I snarled, holdng back tears. "I'm the one that helped you SUCCEED the mission." I growled, and sat under a tree and looked at my biten paw. It was bleeding. "I know, Phoenix cares. But he doesn't admit it." I whispered.

Phoenix growled softly to himself. He didn't need her. He didn't need anybody. He just needed himself, and his hunting skills. Besides, without Layla whining about 'feelings' and 'love' he could probably travel more then he normally did. Tail flicking, he trotted off.

When I returned, Phoenix was gone. Rain started to fall, and I teared up. But then I was tackled by something, and I saw more than one Wolf. My former pack. "We found you. Die!" The Betabarked, and they all started chasing me.
I knew I couldn't take on all of them, so I ran. I realized I ran right by Phoenix, but I didn't care. I headed for a gorge, and I bravely leaped off into the river below.

Phoenix felt a body rush by, and was surprised to see Layla. "Layla?" His voice was muffled out by the rain, and he dove into the gorge after her. Two wolves stared at the gorge and looked at the betas. "They're probably dead," one said. One of the betas nodded. "Good."

When I saw Phoenix's head bobbing out of the water, I smiled but coughed. "Phoenix!" I yowled, and tried swimming towards him. But instead I was luckily pushed to the shore, and I grabbed Phoenix's scruff, pulling him to shore a well. "Are you OK?" I asked, as I shivered, my teeth chattering.

Phoenix coughed and sputtered. "Are you alright?" he asked sharply, struggling to his paws. "I can't believe I nearly lost my head for you! Again! Why don't you become useful to me and do something helpful, instead of trying to get yourself killed?" Snarling, he stalked off. Over his shoulder, he shouted, "And don't follow me!"

"I'm fine, are you-" I was cut off by him yelling, and my eyes narrowed. "You don't have to save me everytime." I said lightly. I was about to go after him, but stopped. "I care about you, Phoenix. I wish you could do the same." I hissed, though I still felt somethng for him.
