He glared at her as she lay down beside him but shrugged and closed his eyes, falling into a slumber.

Layla awoke in the morning, yawning softly. She dragged a young doe into the den and set it by Phoenix.

The smell of fresh meat roused Phoenix from his sleep. He groaned a little bit before opening his eyes. He licked his lips before sitting up. "Morning," he said. His mouth watered and he leaned down to take a bite.

Layla smiled softly. "Good morning Phoenix." Layla greeted, only eating a bit of the flank. "How's your foot?"

[Blackberry]

Phoenix flexed his foot as he gnawed on the elk. "It's fine," he growled.

Layla flicked an ear and sniffed his foot softly. It wasn't infected, but would need a bit more caring for. She squirted a bit of berry juice on it, followed by some yarrow.

[Blackberry]

Phoenix immediately pulled away, growling. "Hey!" he snarled. "What are you doing?"

Layla snapped at his maw. "It might hurt now, but it will hurt a lot less in a couple hours. Do you want it to heel?!" Layla snapped back. If Phoenix couldn't appreciate her even doing this, then what was the point?

[Blackberry]

Phoenix snarled at her again, holding his paw close. "My paw is fine!" he growled at her.

"If it gets infected then you're pretty much screwed if dirt gets in the infection." Layla pointed out. She sighed. Layla dabbed a bit of juniper juice on it for pain release.

[Blackberry]

The pain subsided and he sighed. "Okay, whatever," he muttered. His tail flicked back and forth and he ripped off a chunk of elk. He was already full, and right now he just wanted to get rid of his frustration by chewing. Phoenix sighed before gnawing on the chunk of meat.

Layla rolled her eyes before eating softly, her tail twitching with irritation. She sighed and licked her chops to rid of the blood before looking at Kaitlyn who was still asleep. "Is the juniper working?" Layla asked Phoenix.

[Blackberry]

"Yeah," the male said around the meat.

Layla nodded and sighed, padding outside before sitting. Sometimes she wondered how she liked him. But there was something about him she found interesting. Layla padded to the river and bent her head down to lap up water. But just then, a piranha had snatched onto her muzzle. Layla yelped and shook it off, snapping with anger. "Stupid flesh eating bastards. I'll fish you myself!" Layla snarled.

Phoenix heard the scuffle and left the den, favoring his injured paw. He flicked and ear and watched her, and he huffed in amusement.

Blood dripped down Layla's face, her white canines baring angrily.

[Blackberry]

Phoenix flicked an ear. "Oh, are you okay?" he asked, approaching her.

[P r o m i s e r]

Layla looked up at him, sighing softly. "Yeah, I'm okay." Layla replied, shaking the blood away. She blinked, trying to get it out of her eyes.

[Blackberry]

He rolled his eyes and licked the blood, wincing at the metallic taste.

Layla laid her ears back a bit. Not in anger or offence, but in comfort. "Thanks Phoenix." Layla whispered, licking his chin softly.

[Blackberry]

He smiled just a bit, nuzzling her back. "You're welcome," he murmured.

[P r o m i s e r]

Layla felt like she couldn't breathe. But once she caught it, she stretched and layed down stiffly. Her muscles ached badly. She laid on her side, watching the rain start to fall.

He lay down as well, the ground soft beneath him. Phoenix licked his jaws before gazing up at the gray sky.

Layla sighed and let her muscles ache, but lifted her head to lick the dirt off of Phoenix's ear.

Phoenix flicked the ear, suddenly remembering Layla laying beside him. He nosed her ear before returning his gaze to the sky.
