Her apology somehow puts me on the defensive, but I try to push it back. "Don't apologize, the past is the past" I said. Why was I hiding my feelings of the situation with her now that I had already told her my whole life story pretty much. I then noticed her pause before the response. No one ever paused when I told them about what happened, they simply said it. It seemed as though she was hiding something that was similar to what happened to me, but I definately didn't want to dig up anything that she didn't need to feel or remember. "What brought you here alone?" I attempted at changing the subject, though my untrained lying skills showed that I was still thinking on the latter topic.

I could feel her watching me but ignored it, staring out towards the ocean again. The waves continued rolling in, though too lazy and small for any real surfing. I guessed it was a good thug I hadn't brought my board; it would have just been a waste of time, though maybe I would go bodysurfing later. I looked back over at Veronica, and shrugged.
"My friends ditched me," I said lamely. "Usually we come together to go surfing, but they thought it'd be a waste of time today. Turns out they were right," I said, gesturing at the too-small and lazy waves.

I nodded and gazed out at the small, rolling saltwater. "Guess they were" I said, my words distracted in thought. I was so bad at this, I usually ended up coming on to harsh or fast. Mentally, I roll my eyes at myself and scoot forward, then let my body relax into the sand. Sighing, I close my eyes and simply listen to everything. A bird, seagull actually, a few other people, a distant dog, et cetera.
[sorry I lost it]

I glance over at her again.
"Do you surf?" I ask, sitting back up again and pulling my knees up, wrapping my arms around my legs.
Me too... At least your's was long.

"Not really, I'm extremely clumsy" I chuckled, but kept my eyes closed. The hot sun kissing at my light skin, though I knew it wouldn't tan. I open my eyes and glance down as a black dog pounds into the water after a stick.
[lol not so much...]

I smirked.
"Have you ever tried?" I pressed, my gaze following her's to the black Labrador as it jumped into the water, only to reemerge, soaking, with a water-drenched stick. The dog trotted back up the beach to the owner, dropping the stick at his feet and wagging his tail hopefully. The man picked the stick up again and threw it, this time down the beach, and the dog jumped up immediately to race after it.
"I could teach you," I said helpfully, keeping my voice calm though my heart pounded noisily in my chest, the blood pulsing through my veins. Every second it took for her to reply seemed more like an eternity, putting me more somewhat noticeably on edge while I waited, ignoring the impulse to squirm.

I shrug lightly at her words, turning to meet her gaze only to find she was watching the black lab bother his owner for another go. I look back down at my toes and wiggle them slightly. "I dunno... It could take years" I say almost light-heartedly. A small giggle vibrating from my small lips. My hair was tickling my back annoyingly, so I took the band from my wrist and pull my hair back. Fingers running through blond hair before pulling it back higher on my head and snapping it in place. "But if you'd like, why not?" I say carefully. Unsure of what else to say.

I smiled shyly.
"It won't take years. At least, the local hotel usually manages to teach beginners in about a week," I say with a shrug, though I had never actually taught someone myself. I had been surfing ever since I was little though, so how hard could it be? I grinned inwardly at the over-used question.
"Well, I guess it's really up to you. It would give us both something to do," I add though.

"Alright" I say with a glowing smile and stand slowly. Offering her my hand. "I think you can do better than the local hotel" I say softly, chuckling lightly at the compliment even if I believed it was true. The crashing waves moved my attention, but I kept my eyes to hers.
[ Sorry ]

I smiled lightly when she offered me her hand and took it, pushing myself off the ground. I couldn't help the way my heart thumped in my chest at the contact and blushed slightly.
"Thanks, but no promises. You'll need a board, so we can just drive over to my place and you can borrow a longboard, it'll be easier than renting or buying one for now," I say with a shrug, reaching down to pick up my towel. Folding it, I put it in my bag.

I nod "Alrighty" I say, then match her flush at my childish vocabulary. Grabbing my towel and throwing it over my shoulder. The sand seemed to slip right off the fabric. I grab my bag and get out my keys. "I'll follow you in my car?" I say, in more of a question than a statement. I had grabbed my cell phone and turned it on on the way out. It buzzed into life, but I had no voicemails or messages. Relieved, I stuff it back into my bag/purse.

I smiled slightly at her blush, brushing it off and heading towards the parking lot.
"Sure," I nodded, swinging my bag onto my shoulder. I felt butterflies dancing in my chest, though they were more from actually offering to teach someone to surf than anything else, though the fact that I would be spending time with Victoria was also an obvious contributing factor. I hardly ever stepped out, I preferred to remain on the sidelines, and I had no idea what had come over me this time, but I didn't think I was actually regretting it as much as I had always thought I would.

I nod and open my door. Sliding into the seat and pushing the key into the ignition. Only slight resistance pushed against the key because of the notches. It roared to life when I turned it. I look over to see what car Kris got into.

Kris forced herself to not look over at Victoria as she climbed into her own car, just glancing over to see what it was, not wanting to seem too cliché or anything. Pulling out her keys, she scanned the line of cars for her yellow Pontiac Solstice. Finding it, she unlocked it quickly and slid into the driver’s side, setting her beach bag in the passenger seat. Twisting the key in the ignition and listening to the engine turn over, she buckled her seat belt and looked in the rearview mirror to see Victoria, before she set the car in drive and slowly pulled out of the parking space.

I watch as she gets into her car and turns the key in the ignition. I belt in and push the power button for the radio. Typically, all the stations were on commercial. With a slight frown, I push the power button again and change gears so when Kris left the lot I could follow her. Trying to seem nonchalant, I glance up in my rearview mirror and check my hair and makeup. Well, I looked okay, for me anyway. I then adjust the mirror and wait for Kris.
