Along the Base of Loneliness [ Mature/Experienced ]
Her wings rested idly at her side as she sat atop the ruins of yet another temple. Her tail flicked back and forth restlessly. Fate... a voice murmered, and she turned her head, looking for the source of which her name had been called from. Seeing nothing, her head returned to its normal, statue-like position as she started blankly into the unknown future. Her tail plopped down gently onto the granite rubble and small tendrils of a light-colored smoke floated out from her nostrils. The heat of fire still burned in the back of her throat, itching to get out. Her emeraldish colored scales shined regally under the moon as she held her elegant posture, her head slightly tilted upwards to give her a royal air. Although Fate was not of royal bloodlines, her emeraldish-jade colored scales made her seem so. Her coloring was extremely rare, and tended to be passed down through the lineage of royal families. Of course, Fate's beauty was unsurpassed by any normal dragonesses. Fate acknowledged this with a grain of salt.
She let out a loud roar, slicing through the silence as she waited for a companion -- hopefully male -- to come. Fate was tired of being lonely, and was ready to start her life over again with a perfect brute that'd protect her through anything, even though she could protect herself perfectly fine. Fate wasn't like the normal dragonesses. Instead of listening to the he-dragon's song and finding the most attractive one, she challenged to the dragon to a fight. Any dragon that could defeat her in battle would be her mate for life -- although that was yet to happen. Fate blinked and returned to her regal stature and waited.

Through the thick fog that hovered around Asgnoc Temple, a rumbling was heard deep within its ruins. The fog was so thick that it hid the large temple from the average eye. Even the moon's brilliant light couldn't penetrate through the thickness of it. Again, the rumbling sounds was heard and this time, the ruin shook violently and crumbs of stone fell down the sides. A hiss escaped and small, faint yellow light began to fill the holes and falling windows. With a loud burst and ear piercing cry, a golden dragon erupted from its depths.
Thrain was awake.
Thrain was brought up by the original master of Asgnoc Temple many years ago as a personal guard. Thrain protected his master and his treasures that he kept well hidden in the bottom of the temple. Ever since the death of his mighty ruler, Thrain has stayed within the temple's walls to guard the loot.
With a start, Thrain gripped one of the walls with his mighty talons, scraping against the stone and letting sparks fly. He extended his grand wing span and then curled them back in again. All around him, a golden glow was cast from his gleaming scales. Each scale was made of gold as was each talon. His wide eyes blazed emerald as he gazed long and hard around him, blowing smoke from his large nostrils.
A sudden cry erupted from his throat as he launched himself into the fog, his powerful legs thrusting him into the sky with ease. He thrust his wings out and beat them against the stagnant air as he surged forward. He had answered a cry of a female. He sliced through the air with his slender build. Against the moon, his scales looked smooth like chrome. With a grunt, he cried out again and Thrain began his search for the dragoness.

Re: Along the Base of Loneliness [ Mature/Experienced ]
Fate's claws dug through the rubble she was sitting on as she waited impatiently. She turned her head when she heard a reply, then let out another long croon and pounded her tail on the rubble, sending out slight vibrations. Her light-jade-colored eyes scanned over the sky and she flapped her wings to get rid of some of the dust that had flung up when her tail had pounded the rubble. Quietly, she blinked and furled her wings tightly against her scaly body once more. Finally, she thought to herself. She heard another cry from the he-dragon, and let out a slight growl before roaring a reply. Finally! Fate let out a sigh and stretched out her neck, scratching her neck and humming slightly, claws tapping on the rubble. Fate yawned once as she waited for the he-dragon to show himself.

It had been years since Thrain had flown. For so long, Thrain had slept within the dark walls of the crumbling temple waiting for the perfect moment to come out. He had hardly a need to hunt and any other necessity was not necessary for him. But now, out in the sky with the wind soaring past him, he felt rejuvenated.
The golden dragon new he was coming closer upon the female. He could smell her and her cries seemed impatient. He replied back, sending his own impatient cry to her. Closer still, he could just make out her feminine form looming on the rocks before him. Drawing upward, he dove and then extended his wings so he could swoop up near her, but not to close.
With twelve feet dividing them, he hovered, suspended in the air before her. He watched her closely with guarded teal eyes. His scales gleamed, the light growing ever brighter the more he studied her. It had been a long time since he had been in the company of another dragon let alone a dragoness. He was not going to make the first speech, it was her who had called out first.
But as he watched her, he took her in. Like any male dragon, he felt more alive around the opposite sex. His large eyes swept over her dazzling jade scales that were smooth and healthy. She was sleek and very feminine, but Thrain new this dragoness could easily put up a fight. To himself, he wondered why she hadn't courted yet.

From above, Fate recognized the golden gleaming of scales. She nodded, snorting gently and watched him dive over to her, hovering in the air only a few feet before her. She tilted her head slightly, breaking the stiff, regal stature she'd held only moments before. She let out a soft crooning as her eyes ran over him, as if trying to memorize what he looked like. He looked strong and healthy -- which was always good. Fate allowed the silence seep between them for another few minutes before lifting her gaze back up to his face and searching his eyes for something untouchable. Satisfied, she nodded and readjusted her pose, folding her wings tighter against her thin, compact body.
"That took you long enough," She said, not hesitating, and tilted her cheeks upward slightly. Not quite sure how to keep the conversation running -- not to mention, in the direction she wanted it to go -- Fate added in, "I'm Fate." She curled her tail around her gently as small tendrils of greyish smoke drifted from her nostrils -- her sign of contentment. Her eyes searched him once more, although her jade pupils never moved. "Quite a fine-looking dragon, I must admit." Fate replied, tilting her head once more to the side slightly and then letting her head nod briefly. "Indeed." She pulled herself erect and asked, "What are you called?" The smoke from her nostrils floated up once more, dancing into several brilliant colors before evaporating; the smoke stopped coming. She shifted herself once more to allow him to land and sit if he wished to.

Thrain hovered longer, beating his wings in a steady up and down moment that came to him with ease. From a hatchling, Thrain had no choice but to learn to hover because he was immediately brought to training. He watched her watch him until her short and smart comment dispersed the silence.
"Im here now." he offered, his deep and masculine voice ringing out around them and echoing off the ruins.
He listened as she said her name and he decided it fit quite well with the way she looked. Gifted by true parents, indeed. he thought mentally. Seeing her shift her stance to allow him room on the stone, he thankful glided over and landed upon the rock gently. He made himself comfortable before replying, "Thrain.". Thrain wrapped his slender tail around him and tucked in his mighty wings. Craning his sleek head, he watched her closely with large green eyes.

Fate nodded when he said his name, and she repeated it just to feel the way it rolled off of her tongue. Pleased once more, she shifted uncomfortably, tiring quickly of this dull conversation. She watched him come and take stance a ways in front of her, but not too far, and get himself situated. That won't last very long, she commented to herself, seeing his comfortable position. "I doubt a dragon such as yourself would come here not knowing what I was looking for." She said, making her point rather evident. If he didn't understand, she'd probably just leave. Fate had high standards for a dragon she felt suitable for courtship, and often tested the brutes like so. He looked rather intelligent though, and indeed, as she'd noticed earlier, he was quite muscular. He'd be a good match in battle. She let out a small curr just thinking of it, adrenaline[sp?] shooting through her veins. Fate calmed herself, rolling her shoulderblades to crack the stiff bones, and then snorted quietly, waiting for his reply.

Thrain looked boldly at her, his narrow and slender head tilted slightly. Not quite cocky, but confident. He rustled his wings before answering. "I have no doubts you were calling forth a battle to earn courtship." he said and flicked his tongue out to taste the stale air. He tossed his tail lazily and twisted his head to feel the satisfying crack of bone reliving the stress there. He arched his neck and let smoke rings rise from his wide nostrils, waiting her move.

"Indeed," She nodded, impressed. Most males that came to her only expected to get her easily with their 'charms.' Fate looked him over once more than said, "Then there's no reason to wait, is there?" She spread her wings, the claws on the end clipping his shoulder as she hoisted herself up into the air and soared around a bit, getting her wings used to the feeling of the cool air running underneath them, and giving herself the time to stretch. She looked back down upon and spat a small get of flames at his feet, trying to get him up. "Come on, big boy." She muttered through her fangs as she dived and twirled, getting more and more energized by the second.

Thrain grinned as he watched her take off into the air and little spark of heat he felt against his shoulder when her talon brushed agaisnt it. He waited until she was high enough above him before he would thrust up. Using the power of his hind legs, he propelled himself forward, the rock crumbling away beneath him. He kept his wings tuced in until the last moment where he spread them and hovered in the air. He watched her with keen gold eyes and awaited her attack. "Ladies first." he said. Showing his fangs, he allowed a slim trail of golden flame to explode from his mouth and shoot above his mighty head.

Re: Along the Base of Loneliness [ Mature/Experienced ]
Fate smirked, waving her tail back and forth in utter amusement. Maybe he would present her more of a challenge: the prize would be great, after all, would it not? Fate snorted, pitch-black wisps of smoke coming up from her nostrils. She let out an ear-splitting roar, her talons splayed, a bloody grin plastered on her face, though it was all in good fun. Without waiting, she smirked at his comment and chuckled before blowing a jet of flames at him, tucking her wings in by her side, diving down at a rapid pace, snapping her wings open and propelling herself upward, her talons splayed, ready to grasp onto his soft underbelly if the chance arose.

Thrain watched her intetnly, awaiting her next move. Her strike. Within seconds, she was giving him a devilish smile and spewing hot flames at him. On instinct, he dodged the attack easily. Swooping upwards, he turned over and threw out his talons, ready to meet her's.

Fate flicked her tail as she calculated his next move. She knew she wouldn't be able to fully dodge his attack, so, instead, she latched her claws in between his and held on with a grip tight enough to rip the head off of any smaller mammal. Due to his scaled feet, her claws did minimal damage, but she knew it would still pinch. Keeping her front claws latched with his, she used her back feet to push off of his stomach, releasing her claws and hoping to pull free.

Thrain felt the pinch and grunted softly. When she shoved off of him, he felt his breath momentarily glide out of his chest and then he quickly drew it back in as he rebalanced himself. As he watched her, he debated what to do. In a flash, he lunged after her and opened his mouth, letting lose a firey stream of gases. His gold scales shined in the brilliant sun and his emerald eyes gleamed with humor.

Re: Along the Base of Loneliness [ Mature/Experienced ]
Fate closed her wings close to her body and spiralled downward, growling loudly when she felt the heat of his fire glazed across her scales, and she quickly opened her wings and soared out of the heat of his flames. He was definately putting up a fight, much unlike the other dragons she'd faught before. She whipped around and faced him, smiling to herself, flicking her tail in slight annoyance. She stared him down for a moment, contemplating what she should do, before an idea came to her. She would lead him on a wild goose chase, at least until he grew tired and she could attack him easier. She tucked her wings in close to her body and shot down like a torpedo into the maze of ruins below the both of them.

Thrain hovered in mid air as he watched her fight off his flames. His golden wings beat with the rythm of his heart that was keeping time with twitching of his tail. To keep calm and collected he often invisioned himself as a large clock. Seeing Fate swoop below him into the ruins, he growled and then hissed. He knew exactly what she was trying to do and it rather annoyed him than excite him. By now he was no longer in fight mode nor was he ready to be in chase mode. Huffing he tucked in his wings and spiraled after her.

Fate snorted and made her ways through the ruins until she was far enough ahead of him she felt safe to stop. She perched herself on top of a large pile of rubble, in plain site, in case he did catch up to her. Even if she'd hidden, she would've been hard to miss with her jade scales. Fate flicked her tail and began to groom herself, getting rid of the random tidbits of dust and grit that had lodged themselves in her scales. Maybe if he found her she'd call it a draw; after all, he was the only male she'd ever taken on that had managed to evenly match her this far. All others had failed in that regard and she'd beaten in the first ten minutes of battle. No, he'd be a good mate and father, by her standards.

Thrain spirled through the ruins, leveling out as he dove closer to the ground. He straightened himself out and wove in and out of the spacious temples and marble broken statues in search of Fate. Through dilated nostrils, he inhaled the air around him in order to pick up her scent. Before long, he had it. Smiling, he swung to the right and picked up his pace. Soon he found her perched on stone. "Hello again." he growled softly as he chose a sturdy rock to settle upon.

Fate stared at him for a moment then let contented smoke rings float from up her nostrils. “I like you,” she said finally, flicking her tail in a gentle manner. “I think you’ve proven yourself.” Fate looked him over. “And I guess it’s up to you now.” Fate stood up and looked him over once more. Yes, he’d make a fine mate and father, if he so desired to take her as his mate. She tucked her wings in closer to his body and walked over to him, making a humming noise deep within her throat. “So?” Fate asked, flicking her tail gently underneath his chin.

Thrain strained his golden eyes upon her when she spoke. "Im glad to hear of it." he responded in his husky voice. Shifting on his perch, he pondered wether or not to take her offer. She seemed like a worthy enough female and their werent many dragoness around these parts anyway. Making his decision he answered, "So i think id like to call you my mate."
Thrain lifted his chin as her thin tail brushed it and purred deep within his thrat in content. Reaching forward, he rest his neck around her and breathed deeply, exhaling across her green shaded scales.

Fate nodded and smiled, “Pleasure to hear it. You’re the finest brute I think I’ve seen in my years.” Fate looked over him again and wrapped her tail around his in a gentle manner, ruffling her scales when she felt his breath across them. She settled herself down beside him, eyeing him momentarily. Fate was ready to be claimed, though it was entirely up to him. She already felt as though she had a commitment to him. He’d given her a fight that had been better than most brutes’, and now he’d accepted her offer as her being his mate. So, now she was his, and would do as he asked of her. Humming again, Fate shook her head gently.

Thrain smiled to himself. For once in his life, he was happy and content. He knew that he would not have to be constantly moving about in search of a female, or temporary home and anything else that motivated him to be so restless.
"Fate?" he asked softly, pulling away from her but keeping his thick tail intertwined with her's. "I believe i am due for a good meal, what do you say? Care to join on our first hunt together?" A smile tugged at his lips as he watched her with warm, tender eyes.

Fate had just laid her head down by his chest, wavy smoke that smelled like incense floating up from her nostrils. When he spoke up, she opened one of her large, amber eyes and smiled. Fate lifted her head and got up, allowing their tails to still be twined together. “That sounds like a good idea,” Fate said, suddenly realizing she was rather hungry herself.

Thrain smiled and backed up, untangling their tails and stretching out his legs. He removed himself from the stone by stepping off of it and settling upon the lush, grassy ground. Giving a content hum, he cranned his head to the right and took a whiff of the air. Though the ruins were full of small game, he desired something a little more bigger, something with more meat on its bones.

Fate prummed in her throat in a contented manner, flicking her tail happily and bounding up beside him, folding her wings in by her body, extremely content with life at the moment. She lifted her nose into the air, nostrils flared as she tried to scent out a meal that would be big enough for the both of them. "Hmm," she said, more to herself than to anybody else. Her claws dug into the dirt as she took another sniff. What would be big enough. It was somewhat inevitable that there would need to be two of whatever was caught, seeing as Thrain was a fully-grown male. Fate flicked her tail again, "What are you in the mood for?"
