Fayre sat by the water, looking at her reflection in the crystal clear waters. She smiled and pulled a piece of hair behind her ear. She leaned back upon a smooth rock that had worn down from all the years she'd been laying against it. She'd been coming here ever since she was 7 -- 9 years. She grinned at the woman she'd become, although she wasn't very pleased. Her parents were trying to marry her off, as was customed. She'd been unmarried a year longer than she was supposed to be, but she continued to reject the suiters that came and tried to win her heart. She wasn't interested in any of them. Why couldn't her parents see that? She picked a small rose from the rosebush she'd planted next to her and twirled it in her fingers, smelling the wonderful aroma.

~Alexander~I carried my bow through the thick fog of the forest right outside my kingdom. I crotched next to a moss-covered boulder and reww an arrow from its sheath. I loaded it into my arrow and pulled back the bowstring. Zing. Right into the heart of a 8-point deer. "Yes!" I cried in joy and ran to go get my kill after it had dropped after running about 20 feet. I pulled it by the antlers to my black steed. I slung it across the other dead bodies of deer across my horses's backside. "The fourth today, Mistro." I called out to my servant, who had become my dear friend over the years. Whe had grown up together and he was and forever will be my loyal servant. I mounted my stallion and rode intot he forest, spotting a small deer near a lake of crystal-clear water. I kneeled once more and loaded another arrow. Zing. I hit the deer above the heart, but it wouldn't last long. "Ha!" I watched it try to jump over and dirty log, but feel to the ground. I walked to recieve my last kill of the day. I pulled it and slung it across my horse's back once more. "It's been enough for today." Mistro was really the only person I talked to other than my parents. I smiled at the young man on a bay quarter horse. "One second." I walked back toward the lake once more to get a drink of water. I approached the shining water, my black leather boots deep in the mud. I reached both of my hands cupped together into the water. I lifted it to my mouth and drank. It felt good going down my dry throat. Of course I had water in my saddle bag, but I wanted to try this. Oh, was it worth it. The sweet taste of the cool liquid going down my throat was as joyous as getting a new horse. I need to some back for Father to try..... I pulled a cantene from behind me. I dipped it in the freezing water and filled the leather pouch. I came up from my crouch and closed the flask. I stood to see the most beautiful woman on the other side of the lake. Oh my..... I turned and jogged back to hide behind some near by tree so she wouldn't see me. Or did she?

Fayre looked up, seeing something move in the forest. She looked around, seeing ripples in the once-still water. She furrowed her brow. Usually animals didn't come over to the water without her noticing....The water was most favored for its unique taste, but animals, especially deer, which were mostly seen around here, didn't fancy the taste of the divine water in the lake. Fayre's sharp sense of curiosity engaged her into a game of chase, but she decided against it, remaining put. She continued to stare at the rippling water until it was once more still. Then she turned to look at where...where...whatever it was had just disappeared from, wondering if it'd come back into her sight-range. She was quite interested in finding who it was. She scowled as she reclined back onto her rock and settled herself down again, looking up at the shifting clouds.

I wiped the sweat from my brow as she walked back to where she sat before. I ran back to where Mistro was. "You have to try this water." i handed him the cantne off my back. He took a sip and gave it back to me. "Why, that's the best water I've ever tasted!" His voice was rather loud and I didn't want the lady to hear. "Shhhh." I put a finger over my lips to hush him. He gave me a puzzled look and then shook his head. I mounted my horse and turned it. "Let's go a diffrent way." I smiled and started my steed forward, towards the lake. I didn't get too far when Mistro came up beside me. "No, Alexander, we have to go this way." I laughed at his cowardly tone. "No, there's someone over here, I want to see who it is." Mistro just shook his head again. I went a little faster. I then came to where the lady sat. I held out a hamd for Mistro to stay behind the trees. My horse neihed and pawed at the ground, not wanting to stop. I winced and pulled on the reigns for him to be quiet.

Fayre turned her head to where the sound of the horse had come from. She vaguely could make out the silhoutte(sp) of the horse and rider. Although it looked as if there were two of them.... She stood up warily. "Hello?" She asked quietly, but it was a quiet forest and her voice was carried well into the trees. She didn't move very far from where she was standing, not know who was behind the trees. She was taught at a young age to be wary of those she met in the forests. Her mother's first child had been kidnapped and never returned. Even to this day, when she would be heiress and taking the throne at the tender age of 20. But no, their daughter had never returned. Fayre returned her attentions to the matters at hand as she continued to looked deeply into the trees. "Hello?" She repeated, bravely taking a few steps closer.

I swallowed my fear and made my horse step closer. Now, in the light, she could see my face. "Hello." My voice was clear and strong, as it should be. I nodded to the lady, who looked younger than me. I felt a wamr smile come upon my face and I kept it there. I could here Mistro behind me murmering. I looked back and hushed him. Then, I turned back to the fair lady. "I am Alexander Qaruid the Second, son of Alexander Qaruid the First, future king of Amara." So yeah, I was a prince. Did I forget to tell you tell you that? My horse shook out its black mane and grunted. I pulled the reigns again softly to quiet him. "Who may you be?" I dismounted from my horse to make this more comfortable. I stayed with my hand still on the saddle.

Fayre frowned and looked him over a second. He was quite finely built, and quite dashing. She gave a warm smile, "I'm Fayre. Daughter of King Arledge, ruler of Tyr. As well as my mother, Queen Jetta." Her smile faded as she remembered her mother who had left two years before, and had only returned two weeks ago with a terrible fever. Her future didn't look too bright at the moment. Fayre smiled again and did a small curtsey. "Pleasure meeting you, Alexander." Being a princess, she didn't see it fit to call him 'Mr.' anything. She didn't care that he was a prince, nor that he was very handsome. All that mattered was that she was ap princess. She believed she owned more respect than he. Although she wasn't usually this stuck-up, she didn't trust strangers. She decided she'd be a bit more welcoming. She turned back to the water's edge, her hair falling back into her face. She brushed it back gently, "What brings you around here?"

Without thinking, I answered her question. "Hunting." I wiped the smile off my face. I scowled at myself. She didn't need to know that! I shook my head and looked back at the beautiful maiden named Fayre. "It's nice to meet you." Even though she was the daughter of my father's rival, my voice was very friendly. "And what brings you around here?" I flattened out the top of my hair, which I had noticed in the glare of the water was sticking up. Mistro behind me called out ym name. "One second, Mistro." I turned and gave him a reasurring smile that I was okay.

She frowned when he heard that he was hunting. "Not many people dare disturb these parts of the forest." She said quietly, sort of hoping he couldn't hear her. She looked back over into his charming eyes. She shrugged, "But I assume we all hunt for different things." She quieted down for a second, then answered his other question, "I'm always around here. I've been coming here since I was merely 7. It's one of my most favorite places to visit. She walked back over to her perch and sat down, resting her back against the rock. "It's very relaxing here. Maybe you could come back sometime, and just relax, instead of hunting." her gaze returned to the stilled water.

I smiled at her openess and mounted my horse. "I'd be glad to, but I must depart with you now. May I ask when I can come back?" I slid my brown leather boots into the stirrups and shifted my weight into the saddle. My steed pawed at the ground, rather impaitently. I pulled the reigns a little. I took the cantene from the strap across my back. I opened to bottle and took a sip, wiping my mouth with my sleeve. I put the cap back on the leather pouch and slung back across my back. I looked back at the beautiful maiden.

Fayre nodded, "Anytime. I'm here usually late into the night, although I know I shouldn't be. I rarely go back home anymore. So, if you stop by I'll most likely be here. It's a bet I would take." She smiled at him one last time before removing her eyes from him and looking back onto the water. She plucked another rose off the rosebush and held it to her nose delicately. She then placed it on the surface of the water, watching it slowly and silently drift closer to the middle of the lake. She had almost completely forgotten he was still there, she was so caught up in the peace that surrounded her.

~Alexander~
"Perfect, I'll come tonight, without Mistro." I said loud enough for him to hear. I turned my horse around and trotted off, but before I did, I bid farewell to her. I trotted down the path into my kingdom. There were girls playing outside one of the wooden houses. They giggled as I passed by. I stopped infront of them and dismounted. I picked three flowers for each of them. I approached the girls, smiling. I handed the the daisies as I kneeled. "How are you three beautiful girls today?" Each of them giggle and took the flowers. "Hi, Aleaxander.." Theydanced around me in a circle. I laughed and stood. "I have to depart with you, girls." They did little puppy-dog faces as I mounted and trotted to my castle.

"I guess I'll see you then," she replied softly, so only she could hear. A smile crossed her face. Maybe tonight would be a good night to go home. She got up, flattening her gown out and quickly running her fingers through her long hair before turning in the opposite direction the prince had gone and began walking. She hummed a little tune to herself as she walked through the ever-darkening forest. She reached her palace about 10 in the PM and she walked up the glorious flight of stairs before knocking on the door. The servant answered and ushered her in. Immediately she had some water heated and took a bath, just relaxing. Something tingled in the back of her head; the excitement of seeing the prince again. That night, she made sure to get a good rest, and headed back out the next day at noon.

I trotted up to my castle and through the drawbridge. I led my horse on foot to the stables and put him in his. I took the three deer into my father's throne room. He apraised my kills. "Ah, Alexander, I'm so proud of the man you've become." I smiled and nodded at my father. "Thank you." He dismissed me up to my quaters. I had Mistro draw me a bath. As he did, I grabbed an oil lamp and an old, withered book. I sat down in a wooden chair at my study desk and read. I had already read this volume three or four times, but it was my favorite. It was the story a man who conquered a kingdom by cutting off his hand and throwing it acroos a river. Well, it wasn't that simple. The policy was kinda of a race. There was a wide river in a countryside of Ireland. Whoever got across the river first was the next king. So, the man cut off his hand and threw it right across, of course, winning the race. I shut the book and went to take a bath, scrubbing my hair with a perfumed pig fat. I washed it out and finished the bath. I got out and dressed for my visit back to the lake. I brushed my hair and shined my boots, getting ready. I slipped on a black peasant shirt and white leather britches, slipping on the black boots I had ust polished. I waited until Mistro wasn't looking and climbed out the window. I set on foot towards where the maiden would be waiting for me.

Fayre nearly stumbled over a rock she had failed to notice. She caught herself, though, and reached the lake before Alexander did. It didn't worry her that much, though, as she went to go sit down on the ground where she always did. She rested against the smooth rock and picked another, newly budded rose. The rose she'd placed on the water yesterday was no longer there. She fiddled with the ends of her hair as she waited on the charming prince she'd met only once. It sort of surprised her that she'd invited a nearly complete stranger to her peaceful little area.

I finnally walked into the area I had seen Fayre in before. I saw her sitting in the same spot. I smiled and walked to sit beside her. "Hello there." I sat down with one leg extended in front of my and one in a traingle sort of thing. I laughed and pulled something out my pocket, a flower that you could only get in Amara, a purple rose. I handed it to her as a gift. "For you." I had cut the thorns with me dagger earlier and removed the dangerous poison-liguid that dripped from the stem when cut. Of course, my knowledge of books had taught me that. I skipped a rock in the river and watched it jump, creating ripples. I sighed and looked bvack at Fayre.

Fayre smiled as she heard his voice. "Hello," she replied and watched him sit down. She greatly accepted the purple rose, "Thank you," she blushed slightly, twirling the rose. She knew the flower was only found in Amara, and her father would kill her to see her with it, but she didn't mind. She just wouldn't go home tonight, then. "You look nice," she replied quietly. "How are you today?" She watched him skip the rock and chuckled slightly.

I smiled a ther and answered her question. "I'm exquiste, and you?" I watched her delicate hands twirl the flower. My blue eyesthen fixed upon her beautiful face. I broke my gaze and looked back at the water. I dipped my hands in the water and took a sip. My nose crinkled. It didn't taste like it had before. It had a rather, salty taste now. I looked back at Fayre. "It tastes, diffrent."

Fayre looked at the water. "It's weird you should mention that," she replied. "It's a special lake. It tastes different each time of the day. At sunset every day, it tastes the best." She smiled and placed the rose next to her rosebush. "And I'm fine." She looked over at him, at the face he was making at the salty water. She then absentmindedly made a rather odd comment, "It's a wonderful place to swim." She didn't think about how the comment could've been perceived.

"oh, well, oh." I wiped my wet hands on the grass and leaned back. I heard her mention it was a great place to swim. A sly grin came upon my face. "Well, let's try it out." puleed off my boots and climbed a tall rock. I dove off into the clear water. I swam to the shore in which Fayre was sitting at. "You were right." I laughed and went back under the water.

Fayre laughed as she watched him dive into the water. She'd go swimming with him, but she didn't feel fit to remove her overdress in front of still somebody she considered to be a stranger. She watched him come up at the shore and she leaned over the water, splashing him before he went back under. She smiled and leaned back against her rock and smiled, cheeks a rosy red.

I popped out from under the water. "Weell, Fayre, that was not too lady-like," I smiled and disappeared under the water again, coming up behind a boulder so she couldn't see me. I gathered up some sticks and started a fire with a match. I retreved a dagger from beside my boots, where I had left it. I went and killed two small rats. I brought them back to the fire and roated them. My clothes had dried from the heat, so I slipped my boots back on. I brought the rat meat to Faure and generously gave her some. "Don't ask what it is." I chuckled softly as I sat down and began eating. I got my dagger and cut of a sliver fo meat at a time, tossing them into my mouth.

Fayre ate a little bit, but she wasn't very hungry. Plus she rarely ever ate meat. She smiled and watched Alexander eat. She laid back against her rock and stretched. She might as well get to know him while he was here. "So, Alexander...tell me something about yourself." She was trying her hardest to stay focused on him, but something kept moving in the woods. She wasn't sure what it was, but every time it moved, she noticed.

I thought about her question and answered it thoughtfully. "Well, as you know, I'm prince of Amara. My coronation to be king is in three months by the way. Anyway, my ambition in life is to be the greatest king Amara has ever seen. I'll make sure no one lives a hard life, everyone will live in harmony. No wars, just peace. But, for now, I spend my time with my peopl, hunting, reading, and playing music." I lost myself in though as I was saying this. I got bakc on track and contiuned. "My servant's name is Mistro. He was born to have his job. he is my beast friend." I smiled and looked down at the ground. "My parents are total violence freaks. My mother is a retired warrior and my father was born into royalty, like I." I turned back to Fayre. "I could just go on and on."

"I admire your ideas on ruling peacefully," she said quietly. "I won't become queen until my parents marry me off." She frowned and she looked across the lake. "But they have no taste in men." She laughed a little, then looked back at the movement in the forest. She furrowed her brow, "There's something in the forest. I don't know what it is, though." She said, continueing to stare into the forest.
