My head jerked straight up into the air as the ear-splitting scream of another stallion shattered the silence of the air, and my ears immediately laced back flat against my dark head. My nostrils flared to show the fine red layers, and my tail lashed out fiercely behind me as I stepped away from the tall weeds and grasses that grew beside the twisting river. Lifting a dark hind leg, I struck out aggressively behind me at an imaginary foe, sending hot desert sand flying when my sharp, hardened hoof dug into the ground. Lifting my head, I let out a loud, high-pitched bugle of my own that echoed over the land in a fierce finality, and with the silence that came after it I stilled, listening, swivelling my ears to catch any possible sound. The hot, Arabian blood of my ancestors coursed hotly through my veins and my coat twitched slightly as though flies were landing on me. Tossing my head up straight into the air, I tossed my head in a circle, letting out another scream as I stepped forward once more. My head was held up, nose tucked almost to my chest and creating a nice arc in my crest, my long, midnight legs prancing forward. My teeth were bared, parted away from each other slightly. Flagging my tail behind me, I trotted forward, my stride long and effortless. Sweat broke out slightly on my flanks and chest because of the intense heat, though it didn't seem to bother me as I moved forward. My ear moved every which way, taking in all the sounds as I threw my head up, scenting the air. Lacing my ears back at the new scent, I broke into a slow canter, sand thrown out behind me, my feet sinking into the ground up to my fetlocks in the loose sand. Tossing my head up once more before tucking it back to my chest, I weaved my way through the sand dunes before starting up one of them, slowing my stride so I was maintaining the same effort level and opening up my stride as I crested the dune and started down, letting gravity pull me and only focusing on keeping an easy stride and not tripping. My ears moved forward as I put my head up and let my hind legs come up beneath me, sliding down the last five feet or so of the hill and slowing my stride before lunging forward again. Throwing my head up into the air and tossing it in a circle, my ears flicked behind me before moving forward, and I threw my head back down, wondering who the new stallion was. I had thought this area hadn't been claimed by anyone; It had stood desolate and abondoned for years, so it may just be another rogue stallion. Shaking my head slightly as if to chase off an annoying bee, I let out another high-pitched scream to the stallion, ears moving forward as I slowed to a trot and waited for a reply. Hearing none, I surge forward again, ears going back to keep the wind out. My mane and tail whipped out behind me, tail flagged and legs moving powerfully and effortlessly beneath me, muscles rolling beneath my taut skin, sweat glistening off of my hide. Fury was no longer boiling up inside of me, but a newfound curiousity and a lust, for in all my disturbed manner and gore, I was careful. I did not go into a fight blinded by rage, nor was I quick to jump into battle recklessly. To wait, to be careful, to take the right precautions, this was what kept me alive all these years, to be careful and wait. Some called me crazy, but I had watched many others go wildly and get themseleves killed while I succeeded in what they had failed to do. So why call me insane? Hearken! Shaking my head, I snorted wildly as I crested another sand dune, a taller one. Skidding to a stop, I hold my head high, my long black, tangled mane falling into my eyes. About a mile and another quarter of a mile away I could see two horses, undoubtedly the mare and the stallion. Tossing my head, I let out a loud, shrieking scream, lacing my ears back as I pawed at the ground.

El Sheton~
My attention had been on that of the strong, lovely, independent mare before me when the shrieking (sp) scream of the other stallion whispered into my ears. Instantly they flattened agaisnt my skull and were hidden by my ink black mane. Rearing up to my full length I thrash out powerfully and let out an ear splitting scream of my own. Its blood curdling untold rage reverbrated against the dunes as it made its way to the stallion. Coming back down silently imy ears flick forward momentarily before roaming restlessly. Tossing my head in an arch I tuck my head neatly and prance forward till I was infront of the mare but a little past her. I had come to be fond of her and had hoped she would take a place in my growing herd just over the mountains. Then the thought of him taking her sent my Arabian blood boiling. My ears flew once again flat against my head and I too bared my white teeth.
Extending one coal black foreleg I paw aggresively at the hot sand. My thoughtful brown eyes watched the form on the dunes about a mile away and my ears listened to his screams. With every scream I head the more acute my sense's became. I was no fool and I would not fight unless it was necessary. My muscles twitched almost in a nervous motion but mostly because I had been standing as still as a statue for too long. Licking my lips I dip my head towards the mare and nicker, but I don't reach to close. I didn't want her to think me as being a forcer or anything like that. If only she could meet the rest of my herd. I thought. Sighing I turn my gaze back to the stallion at hand. His muscular large form drifted in and out of view as the heat waves increased in the afternoon sun. Snorting I raise my head high and lift my tail as a proud Arabian stud should.

Dipping my head a couple times as I saw the other stallion turn to me, I tossed my head into the air and flung it in a circle again, pinning my ears back slightly as I pawed roughly at the hot desert sand. Lifting my tail up, I fling my head up in a circle again, curious as to who the stallion, and the mare behind him, were, and whether or not this was the stallion's land. If so, I didn't think it all that valuable enough to me to challenge him for it. Snorting softly, I shake my head slightly, beginning my descent from the sand dune, towards them. Pacing back and forth across the top for the moment, I find the easiest path down that was less steep as the others, lifting my gait from a walk to a trot, holding my head high proudly, helping to steady and balance out my weight as I made my way down. My ears flicked back to the stallion as I waited, listened, keeping an eye on him as I evaluated his moves as well as my own. Snorting softly, I shook my head slightly as I made it to the bottom, opening and lengthening my stride slightly to the same ground-covering trot as before that I could keep up endlessly.

[sorry]

I snort roughly at the two and snort softly when the first stallion reaches out towards me. I wasn't being mean, just careful, I guess. I watch as the other stallion prances gorgeously down the sand dune. I watched him carefully and then looked to Sheton. I rest my eyes for a moment then lift my two forelegs to stretch. "So hey guys" I said sarcastically. I knew it would throw them both off and thats why I did what I did.

I let out a short rough snort and toss my head a few times as I watch him advance. Hearing the mare's (sorry forgot the name) words I looked over at her confused for a second then turn back to face the stallion. Tucking my head I squeal in a high pitched note and paw the now burning sand. Sure it was uncomfortable, but I had long forgotten the feeling. The stallion made his moves well, and I could tell he knew what he was doing. My tail lashed out behind me like a driven whip as he got closer. Ears pricked I listen to hear anything. Licking my dry lips, I grind my teeth together a few times out antisapation. My black coat began getting a shinning sheen on it as the sun became hotter. Its rays penatrating this barren land like rain. Ears twitching constantly I soon begin picking up the sound of his approaching hooves, each foot fall like the black smiths hammer on the anvil. Tossing my head in a wide circle I rear up shortly and snort. Landing rigidly I remain still as he closes in the last half mile in that easy trot of his. My legs trembled slightly and I pin my ears, for my Arabian blood and instinct told me to kill. But I was smarter than that and would wait. Forcing my ears forward I sigh heavily, patience not being one of my virtues usually.

Samalia~
I chuckle at him and step foreward, out of boredom, and shake my head, I sneeze and trot in a medium sized circle. I then pick up my speed to an easy canter and widen my circle. I stop abruptly after my short yet entertaining strut. My hooves dug into the hot sand as I stopped and I quickly stepped foreward to avoid the heat on my feet. I shake my whole body and watch Sheton closely. "Whats wrong big boy?" I asked him, he was quiet and seemed stressed about the new stallion.

Only about fifty yards away now, I slow my stride, ears flicking back slightly, still trotting, but not as fast. My muscles tensed beneath my taut black coat, and I flared my nostrils to show the fine red layering of the inside, the color standing out and contrasting so well with my dark hide. My temper flared at the sight of him standing there, the mare behind him, and my lips pulled back from my teeth, wanting so badly to lunge forward and strike out of him. My body quivered slightly in contained energy, but I held myself back as I slowed to a walk twenty-five yards away, stride still long as I watched him carefully, waiting.

El Sheton~
Finally spotting the stallion my eyes and temper both blazed. My ears instantly flattening against my skull until my thick black mane covered them. Squealing slightly I raise up into a half rear and strike out in the air. This was my land and I would defend it to the death. Eyes narrowing I come back down to stand to my full height. Head raised my black eyes watched him, his every movement like a page turning to reveal the rest of a story. Just thinking about him cause my muscles to contract and tighten ready to bolt forward and meet him, but my mind cleared and instructed me to stay put, even though my instinct drove me to want to kill. Sighing I turned my head to look at the mare, and thankfully I calmed down like I had hoped. Not necessarily calmed all the way no, but the mare was what was infront of my eyes and head. The burning desire that wanted to destroy the other stallion was in the back of my head while the lovely mare was the in the front and infocus. Snorting softly I turned my head back around, for I did not want to be caught off guard. No, I didnt want to have to fight this stallion but I also would wait to see what his purpose was.
Snorting again loudly, the noise causing my nostrils to vibrate slightly, I flick my black tail and paw the ground infront of me. His easy long stride brought him closer and closer, but it also cause me to tense more and more. Shifting my weight back and forth, I figit (sp) uncomfortably. Casting my gaze to the mare once in awhile. I was about to answer her question when the other large stallion had rounded the dune, which he was now passed, and came into view. So it had become obvious that I wasnt' going to answer right at that moment. Though now I wanted too. Keeping my eyes steady on the other stallion I answer her one ear flicked in her direction. "Someone is on my land." I growled, standing even straighter.

(lol its fine, happens to me alot)

I snort but leave him be, knowing he was preoccupied. I flick my tail and walk a few steps away from the two, bored oout of my wits. I lower my head to the hot desert sand and rest it there, the warmth spreading through my muzzle like warm water over a paper towell.

Post by • Echo Tue Dec 28, 2010 10:48 am

The dark stallion finally came to a stop about seven yards from the other stallion, ears held back slightly and body tense, though not if he were about to suddenly strike out. All his life he had been taught to lash out and take what he wanted, to fight any other stallions that he came across. But for some odd reason, this time he waited. His eyes travelled past the stallion, though not letting him out of his eyesight, to the mare he had heard earlier, and he tossed his head slightly. His tail swishes behind him and he extended a foreleg in front of him, scraping the ground with the front of his hoof but not in a threatening or challenging way to the stud that was before him. He would wait, though if it came to the point of the stallion attempting to kick him off the land, he would be willing to fight, maybe even for the mare so he could get a herd started. He wondered vaguely if the stallion had a herd, but dismissed the thought from his mind. Herd leaders died all the time in battles, the mares in their herds moved on and found other stallions to lead them. He arched his neck, bringing his slightly dishes face almost to his chest as he extended a foreleg before him again. "Hello," he said, his voice rough and deep, and he straightened himself, eyeing the stallion over. They were about the same height, it was hard to tell exactly how much their height differed in the deep desert sand.

El Sheton~
A light quiver ripples across my nasal passages as I snort softly when he comes to a stop infront of me. Raising my head higher and standing even straighter I eye the other stallion that could almost match me like a twin. Flicking my ebony tail I prick my ears, though it wasn't necissarily (sp) in a friendly way. Narrowing my eyes a bit in the blazing rays of the burning sun. Its hottness started to cause a light sheen of sweat to spread over my coal black pelt. Shaking my head a little bit I snort again, except louder, when he paws the ground. My ears only flicking to lay flat against my cranium for barely a second before flipping forward. Hearing his deep throated hello, I dip my head barely an inch before I turn my hard wise eyes on his. "Same to you." I say a bit stiffly. My voice was also deep baritone. Planting my feet firmly in the sun baked sand, I keep myself between him and the lovely mare behind me who's name still hadn't been revealed to me. "What is your purpose here." I ask bluntly. My voice told enough that if he tried anything I could hold my own. I had come prepared to defend my land and possibly offer a mare the safety of a large herd. Already I had one herd residing on my land, and I had yet to go back home and confront him again on whether or not he would be an ali (sp?).

[thanks : ) Sorry I almost forgot about this post]

Samalia~
I watch the two studs size each other up, both were almost exactly alike. I snort softly and watch as they speak to each other, both not being too threatening, more defensive. I knew they were fighting over both me and the land, and I thought they ought to just be fighting over the land. I didn't like being in a herd, if I was in a herd, I would be lead mare. I don't like being lower in rank than anyone else, and if I was I would leave, just as I did with my mother and father. I knew I was second mare in the line up, but it still wasn't first. I watch as the stallion that first greeted me perked his ears, but it seemed like an odd time to do so. I figured it wasn't in a friendly way. I watch as they talk back and forth, figures dancing in my head as to what I thought would happen if they fought.

It's fine.

I resisted the urge to toss my head, eyes looking over the stallion again. The sun seemed to shine brighter, creating more heat as the desert wind subsided, and I flicked my tail slightly. The heat didn't really bother me anymore; I was Lon since used to the hot days and cool nights that the desert was so well known for. I arch an eyebrow as the stallion asks me of my business here, confirming my idea of this being his own land. "The same thing that all stallions secretly wish for," I say simply. "Their own band of mares, their own land to call home and to defend as their own, even if it and they are under another stallion's rule." I tossed my heavy black mane from my eyes, standing just as tall as him as my eyes held his. No stallion could deny their instincts; even if they were loners or in a bachelor group of freelancing, they all wanted the same thing. To rule and conquer a land meant that you had power, that you were superior over those who had none of their own. One of my shoulders twitched when a fly landed on it, and when it lifted only to land back on my shoulder, I pin Ed my ears irritably, twisting my neck to nip at the shoulder the fly was on. This time when it came off of me, it left me alone and I let my ears come forward slightly again, keeping the other stallion in the corner of my eyesight the entire time before turned my head back to look at him.

My thoughts roamed in my head as I listen to the black stallion infront of me. Relaxing a bit I actually sigh. I had come to realize that I could be at ease with this stallion. Lifting my eyes back to his, I eye him curiously. "Even if it is under another stallion's rule huh?" I flicked my tail gently and toss my head a little bit irritably. My instincts drove me to get the matters here settled quickly. For I did not like being gone from my herd this long. Especially when I had to address yet another stallion who had come upon my land. Looking upward, I study the distant clouds that were forming... Black clouds...Rain. It would pour for maybe a day here, maybe not even that. Lifting my nose into what wind there was, I could smell the approaching storm. Quickly I look back at the mare then again at the stallion, awaiting his reply. If the mare wanted to stay here, she could. She was just as free as us.

We all seemed to relax a bit at the approaching rain. When a storm brewed here in this unforgiving desert everything relaxed, they usually enjoyed it. Pups and foals played in it, while adults munched on whatever was available, knowing they didn't have to be sparing. I lifted my small, perfect nose to the air and smelled the storm. Ahhhh how I loved that smell. I toss my white mane turn to my back. I run my white nose up and down my tan back, the movement brushing off clouds of sand and dust. I pulled my neck back around and listened to the two stallions, then shake my nose to rid it of the dark brown/tan mark on it from cleaning my back.

I resist the urge to roll my eyes. Usually I was sarcastic as hell and sirespectful to all, but right now just didn't seem like the right time. "Yes," I answer, looking past him at the mare again, examining her strong, fit body before looking back to the stallion. Stallions could bitch and complain all they want at how their land was really someone else's, plan invades and attacks and daydream about how it would be after they took over, but it hardly ever happened that way. THey normally chickened out, not wanting to lose what they had, or the stallion who ruled them killed them. As long as they had something, they were content, even though there were the few who were greedy and kept trying to get more, though they usually died young, like the heroes did. A shadow began to fall over us and I could see the black storm clouds, feeling my body instantly perk up. Rain, no matter how stormy or miserable it got, which it hardly ever did in places like this, was always a good omen in deserts, and I shook my head slightly as the breeze rippled through my mane and tail, the temperature beginning to drop as the day decreased and the storm approached.

I snort softly at his answer and dip my head for but a second. "Alright. You may stay here, if you wish. There will be conditions of course. But if you are coming here to claim the land, you'll have to go through me first." I say dryly, my eyes hardening just a little. Tossing my head into a circle, i become a bit more lively. Reaching out with a foreleg I paw at the sand, once again flicking my black tail. Its whisps catching in the wind and flicking around like a writhing snake. My dark eyes even began to give off a fiery look, a natural thing for an Arabian. Turning my head just a tad, I address the mare. "I see you have three options. You can join me, him, or leave." My voice was just a dry as when i last spoke.

"They say three is a charming number, but not when it comes to options" I snorted at him and rolled my eyes. "I have lived here all my life, alone, and with no need for you stallions, so may I stay here, but alone or under my conditions?" I asked him, not caring if I was being disrespectful. They were simply another gender, so why treat them like kings? I glance at the other stallion, I swear they were like twins...

I hold my head up high as he replies, dipping my head slightly in a nod. "Of course," I say, flicking my long black tail as the mare spoke. My ears flicked back slightly, hearing little respect in her tone. I mentally reminded myself she was not in the herd I planned to start; I would never tolerate such behavior, no matter who the mare was. My eyes seemed to come alive as I lifted my head, neck arched naturally as I return my attention back to the stallion. "What conditions did you have in mind?" I ask curiously, my tone showing little emotion but not to the point of rudeness.

Still watching the mare, I pin my ears tightly against my cranium, my eyes lighting slightly in fury. Turning my head back to the stallion and prick my ears. "Excuse me for a second." I say respectfully and turn even more towards the mare, but so that each side of me faced one of them. Pinning my ears again I address her. "This is MY land. You either live here with another stallion, or you can leave." I hiss, my nostrils wrinkled back as I spoke. "But I will tell you one thing, no one will respect you when you are disrespectful! Thats just asking for a fight." Snorting I shake my head and turn back to the stallion, my ears falling into a nuetral (sp haha) position. Eyes focusing on him again I think thoughtfully. "All I ask is for respect, alliance, and that I am awknowledge as the leader of this land."

The black stallion nodded at the other stallion's conditions. "Of course," he said smoothly, shaking his head so his mane fell back. "I am Athair ar an Diabhal," he says, voice smooth yet gruff, finally stating his name, which was Father of the Devil in Irish. He eyes went back to the mare for a moment, wondering whiter she would leave or be in the stallion's herd, maybe his own, though he didn't know her name, but it wasn't his place to ask her. This land was still technically the other stallion's land; he was just allowed to raise a herd here.
