Together We Walked, Together In The Stillness Of Twilight [ M ]

Astrid slipped her body around the trunk of the tree, sinking her sharp claws deep into it's bark and pulling herself onto a thick branch. Her scales scraped against its surface, creating an ominous scratching sound that hung in the air. She let her body down onto the branch and stretched all four of her wings out to her sides. The joints popped and cracked, and she let out a sigh. Astrid rested her head down on the tree and her wings drooped over either side, hanging beneath her.

"Fire!"
Bows twanged as their arrows were released, sending useless wooden objects against her side. They snapped as they met her armored scales and crumbled to the ground. She reared up and snarled, spitting clouds of violet flame out around the villagers. Their weak homes caught fire and burst into bright oranges and reds and yellows.

A snarl fell from her maw and she gripped the branch tightly, the wood giving out from under her and snapping from the pressure. Astrid's wings fanned out and caught her before she fell, allowing a silent and soft landing. She shook herself and pressed her eyes tightly closed. Her mouth still tasted vaguely of flesh and blood. An iridescent tear slid from her opaque eyes, tumbling down her cheek and then singing as it tapped the forest floor below.
