A wisp of white fabric danced around a dark corner,
leaving shadows shifting behind. An orange glow, swaying and flickering, licked at the grey vrick walls as she passed. Her bare feet pitter-pattered down the hall. All of this melted together to convince Sage that she would be discovered. Every breath seemed to echo around her, whispering in her ears and tickling the rogues strands of hair that brushed her cheeks. The pink of her lips tugged down, but she continued. The candlelight spread as she stepped into a room. The off-white sheets, now golden with the flame of her candle, were warped by the weak bodies of wounded soldiers. Slowly, Sage moved over to the bed farthest in the shadows. She knew not who rested in the bed, nor the extent of his wounds. Her white nightgown cascaded around her as she kneeled. Its thin fabric was smooth, and shadowed her face with a large hood. Sage's slender hand slid up the bed sheet until she felt its edge. She pulled it back gingerly, as though moving rapidly would alert her father to her whereabouts. The wounded man shifted, and Sage's hand snapped back. Her index finger rested on her lips as she awaited his gaze.

Andrew slept in grave pain dreaming of the war, it was horrible. His eyes open to a faint light shining in the room. He watched a beautiful thin figure walk to him and kneel down. He enjoyed her soft touch it was soothing to the lonely pain filled. He didn't speak seeing her finger to her lips, he nodded and realized she was the princess but couldn't bow. He felt ashamed by this and looked away because of it.

Sage's lips pulled slightly downward when the man turned away from her. She lifted herself onto her knees so she was at his level. Her eyes moved down to see his wound, and she winced slightly. It was bad, almost fatal. Her heart sank, and she turned her silver grey eyes back to his. She couldn't make out the exact form of his features because of the deep shadows cast by her candle. Her free hand moved up and slid her hood back from her head, so that he knew who she was. She wasn't sure he recognized her before, or if he just didn't want to be bothered in his pool of suffering.

Andrew watched her and sighed, he wanted to say she looked even more beautiful up close but knew for one she'd probably be caught and two he had no right to unless he wanted trouble. Sighing he looked into her beautiful grey eyes and took a brused hand and place it on her shoulder and tried to smile at her but only one side of his lip curled up. He shouldn't of touched her but he did it anyways cause he wanted to thank her for visiting them, no one ever did it seemed. He moved his hand back from her then whispered a very faint, "Sorry." He could feel the huge gash on his belly ache and his broken leg bleed, his hands where simply brused and scratched, and his face a long gash starting at the left coner of his lip and ending diagonally to his jaw. He was ashamed of himself for leading a troup that failed because he wasn't a good enough warrior in his eyes.

His touch alarmed her but she allowed it, his hands were rough, and warm. Sage shook her head softly. Her dark hair which was pulled back flicked with the movement. She dipped her brows slightly in concern when he winced, and she dismissed his apology. He had no reason to say he was sorry to her, or to anyone for that matter. He was brave, and had fought hard. The injuries he suffered were for his country, and for her. Sage frowned and took his hand in hers "No, I'm sorry" She told him, her voice barely above a whisper. It was melodic, but had a strong edge to it that gave her a harsh tone. The words and her expression showed him that it was just the way she spoke, and that she was being anything but strict at the moment.

Andrew looked at her confused but smiled, "For what Princess Sage?" He asked quietly while addressing her as he was suppose to. He looked to one of his warriors as they moaned in agony and looked ashamed he led him to pain and others to death. Looking back to the princess he enjoyed her hand holding his but didn't show it.

(Eeek worse then the first.)

Sage didn't like him calling her Princess, the authority made her seem old or matronly. She smiled sweetly, but it faded at the sound of a moan from the other bed. She bit her lip and squeezed his hand gently. "This, all of this, it's not right.." She told him, and glanced behind her. She thought she had heard something. A shiver racked her spine and she slipped her hand out of his. At least he wouldn't get into trouble if she was found. Her grey eyes returned to his just as her candle flickered, it dimmed from a breeze then brightened, causing eerie shadows to dance across the wall and her tanned skin.

Andrew frowned, "And I led them to it." He said in a whisper. He felt her hand slip from his and rested it back on the bed. "What?" He asked looking around, everything was blurry to him since he did have a black eye. His eyes raced to the sudden movement of the flame and tensed, seeing it was only the candle he calmed. Sighing he said, "I think some one is coming, you should go." He said then heard foot steps echoing down the halls, looming closer to them. He could see the glow of a candle light light up some one's path. He frowned at this and hoped she'd be able to hide and get away.

Sage frowned and saw the candlelight coming. She brought her thumb and index finger to her mouth and licked them before placing them over the wick of the candle. It made the room go dark, and Sage turned around once more. The candlelight flooded into the room, and Sage strained to see who was coming into the room. She recognized it to be Flynn, her father's advisor. Gasping slightly, Sage flattened herself to the ground and quickly slid herself under the soldier's bed. The floor was cool from the night, and her skin raised with goosebumps.

Andrew stiffened and watched her, he winced when she put her fingers on the candle. When she hid under his bed he relaxed thinking she'd be fine. "Who goes there?" The man asked. Andrew thought fast then said, "No one I just dropped my cup." His lie was horrible but he had dropped his cup the other night. He watched the king's advisor curious of his reaction.

Sage listened for the man, she was surprised that he covered for her. He could've just said that no one was there, but he made up an excuse. She smiled softly, then realized the situation and her smile faded. Her silver grey eyes peeked from the shadow of the bed, and she watched as Flynn stepped over to the wounded soldier. He held a cup in his hand, and handed it to him. "Here, keep a hold on this one, would ya?" He joked, the cup splashed water from it onto the floor once, wetting a piece of Sage's robe. She pulled the fabric back quickly, cursing it in her mind. Flynn's eyes shot down at the movement, and a chuckle sounded from his throat. "Great.." Sage said under her breath just as Flynn stepped back once. "Oh my dearest Princess... You are quite the handful, aren't you?" He said, his deep voice bounding around the dark room. Sage grumbled and slid back out from the bed. She stood up and dusted her white robe off. It was stained from the dirt of the floor. Flynn sighed and reached up. He pulled her hood over her face, shadowing it from view. His hand hesitated at her cheek, but the narrowing of her eyes made him drop it to his side. "Your father will not be happy to hear of this... I told you before that he wants you to remain in bed after sundown" He said and looked over at the soldier. "You should not have lied to me, son" Flyyn said. He wasn't really that much older than the knight, maybe a year or two.

Andrew watched him come over and pick up the cup. He chuckled at his joke and nodded, "Thank you sir." He said holding on to the cup, his hold was weak and barley held anything. When he spotted the princess he gulped and grew very tense. "Yes sir, won't happen again." The loyal knight promised. Sighing he tried sitting up, something he seemed to always do and the nurses would have to hold him down so he didn't hurt himself or try anything stupid. It hurt trying but he did it anyways.

Flynn nodded and touched Sage's shoulder as if to get her to move. She shrugged his hand off and turned back to the soldier. "Stop, you'll only make it worse" She said, and put her hand on his shoulder, pinning him down. She wouldn't have been able to keep him down if he wasn't injured. "I didn't catch your name" She said quietly so Flynn wouldn't hear. She acted like she was just pulling the Knight's sheets up so he wouldn't get cold.

The knight stopped at the princess's command; when she asked for his name he whispered "Andrew Alexander (Last name undecided)" To her and laid there, the night calm and quite. It bugged him simply laying there not helping anyone, it made him feel in the way. Sighing he watched her and Fylnn leave.

Sage nodded curtly at his answer. The name wasn't familiar. Her sigh was thick as she stepped into the hall with Flynn. He looked over at her and frowned, then lifted the lantern he was holding so that it flooded the path with light. "You know you shouldn't be in there." He said to break the silence. "Why not?" Sage snapped, and the air went silent for several long moments. "It's dangerous... They are men, brutes, who knows what they might do.." He said in response. Sage shook her head in disbelief. "Injured men, men who fought for us, for our lives. They deserve to be comforted." She told him, and she looked over. His jaw pulsed as he gritted his teeth and she frowned. She knew he wouldn't talk any more. Finally, they reached her chambers and he promptly locked the door behind her. She fell down on her bed in a huff.

Andrew sighed as when they were gone. He attempted sitting up, making blood gush from his wounds but he didn't stop. He wanted up! He wanted out! He wanted to help! The others watched him try and hurt himself, "What are you doing Andrew, sir?" A man asked the troup commander, "Getting out of here and back to the war. I had enough of laying here all day in the way and slowly rotting." He replied, "But sir you know you'll hurt yourself." Andrew hushed him and said, "I don't care, I care for the others. My father's warrior code, others before yourself." He said then finly managed to sit up. He slid his good leg off and put his hand on the wall. He leaned agents it and awkwardly walked dragging his broken leg. He ignored the severe pain and bit his lips. He went outside of the room and moved to the outside world and looked at the moon, it seemed to relax the knight as he sort of smiled. The commander looked forward and kept moving to the stables to go get his buckskin stead.

After a while, Sage stood and slid out of her robe. The silky fabric fell silently to the ground. She moved to her closet and dressed in a second one, almost identical to the first, only it was a golden color. She sighed and laid back on the bed, only to stair at the moonlit cieling and wonder about how her father would react to the news. She shivered as a breeze caressed her skin, and she looked over at the window. It was wide open. Scowling, the Princess stood and stepped over to it. Her hands gripped the shutters but she froze when she looked outside. Her brows narrowed as she looked closer, and her mouth fell open. "Hey!" She said, just quiet enough to keep the guard outside her door from coming inside. "What are you doing? Are you crazy!" She called out to him, her brown hair appearing black as it tumbled over her pale shoulders.

Andrew kept walking till her soft voice hit his ears. He turned to look, "No, I'm getting out of this prison and back to the war." He replied then looked forward and hesitated seeing the wall coming to a end but kept going. When he got to the end of the wall he got lucky for there was a stick. He used it to walk to the stables and to his stead. "Hey Commander." He greeted the beautiful stallion and then went to his tack and carried it back. He entered the stall but slipped on something. Commander spooked and reared up whining but calmed quickly and moved to his Master who laid there knocked out. He laid down by him and watched the human confused.

Sage sighed and shook her head at his words. Her eyes followed him as he grabbed the stick. "You're going to hurt yourself, and you're not going to do any good in the war when you're like that, just go back!" She said, almost whining. He continued, and she grumbled loudly. Sage threw herself onto her bed and crossed her arms firmly across her chest. If she was just an ordinary girl, she could be out there with him and actually convince him to come back. Instead, she was locked up in this hell hole. With a heavy breath, Sage rolled over in her bed and glared at the wall, trying to find a reason to fall asleep.

Andrew laid there knocked out for hours till he awoke. He looked at Commander and stroked him. He moved his good leg over his bad and onto the horse and pulled himself up with his arm. "Up." He said holding on tightly to his mane. The horse stood and he made him turn by pressering his thumb agents his neck then kicked him making him run forward and jump. Luckily Andrew staid on. He started to gallop the horse out but couldn't balance himself and fell off. Commander stopped and bowed down for his owner to get on who simply just laid there, "I give, stand Commander." He told his horse then realized how much pain was in his broken leg and clenched his teth. Commander stood and moved over Andrew and didn't let anyone he didn't know come near them though no one was there.

By morning, Sage had forgotten all about the man who had tried to go back to war. She ate her breakfast quickly, and went to find her riding instructer. Lenobia, who took her riding twice a week, was a small, grey haired lady with sharp features and just as quick of an attitude. They were headed out into the stables when Sage saw him. Her eyes strained to see, then she recognized the man. She shook her head and ran over to him. She was wearing her riding gear, so she didn't have to deal with a thick dress or tight corsette. Sage kneeled by him and scowled. Flicking his arm, she looked up at his horse. "I told you to go back!" She practically growled before standing and stepping away from the extra large steed. She was used to her smaller mare, and wasn't so sure about this burly beast. "Sage!" Lenobia called, her voice stern and frustrated. "Step back this instant!" She added, and a few guards came from the door behind them.

ommander didn't know the girl and reared up at her, he didn't attack her though just tried to scare her. Andrew had trained him to treat laddies betyer which was exstreamly hard to do with a horse.

Andrew awoke to her, "Hey!" He said when she flicked him. When Commander reared he said" Calm boy, she's not going to hurt me." He said and the horse and the stud laid down resting his head on the man's chest. "Will you get a lode of this horse?" He said before hearing a panicked nurse yell, "He's gone!" He chuckled then answered the princess, "You honestly think you can keep a warrior to stay here and rot instead of fighting with his buddies for freedom.

Sage let out a yip-like sound when the stallion reared up, and she stumbled backwards. She winced, and then blushed when the horse laid down at Andrews command. Lenobia finally reached the two and she wrenched Sage up onto her feet. "Hey!" Sage growled, and stepped away from the trainer. A guard drew his sword on the knight and Sage pushed it away. "What are you doing? He's not going to hurt me" Sage said sternly, then glared down at Andrew. "You wouldn't be rotting, you'd be healing. You should've listened to me" She said, then chuckled slightly. He was stubborn, but she found that entertaining.

Andrew snapped at the gaurd, "Hey dude you don't do the wars so back off, I'm with the big dogs" then calmed. "Rotting." He corrected Sage then looked to his horse, "Well I'm out of here." He said and once again got on his horse but acadently back wards. "Oh no." He whispered and quickly said, "Whoa." But Commander had already stood and bolted. The horse came to a sudden stop and looked at his Master who frowned and turned himself around, "Now I'm leaving." He said before seeing the nurses, "Oh great time for the possy of chicks who want you to rot." He said then looked at the princess and bowed, "Commander gallop." He said ready to go, or at least he thought.
