M.I.A. In Washington State
Adam Revequint
Explosions, gunfire, friendlies and enemies, it was all around me and all I had was one magazine left. I quickly expose of the two targets ahead, and dart inside of the closest ruins. It was hot. So hot, in fact, that there was no relief to retiring in the shade. I check my ammunition. Three rounds left. I exhale loudly and clamber up the stairs. Sand falling off the old concrete as I did so. A shouting erupted from upstairs, followed by gunfire. Then a few friendlies backed down the stairs. "Three upstairs, four in the bathroom!" I heard a nearby shoulder tell his ally before pressing forward once more. Reluctantly, I follow them and take out the three we met at the top of the stairs. We headed towards the next room, all I had was my pistol. They successfully downed the four in the bathroom, and we turned around to leave the building. I met, nose to nose, to a local armed with an AK-47. I hear the crack of his gun, smell the burning of gun powder, felt the air of his rifle's recoil, but felt no bullet.
-----------------------------------------------------------
I woke to coughing and sweat glazed skin. Rubbing my eyes warily, I climb out of bed and walk down the stairs of my small cabin. The cool air that emanated from the door and windows felt good as I passed by them. I pull out a plastic cup and fill it with water. I take a few large gulps of cold water before setting the cup down and leaning back against the counter. Hands clenching the edge of the sink so tightly my knuckles whitened.
---------------------------------------------------------Next Morning-----------------
After breakfast and a shower, I pulled on my wool coat and grabbed the keys to my old '67 impala. Leaving my wood cabin behind, I get inside the black car and turn the key into the ignition. The vehicle roared in response, and I backed out of my dirt driveway and onto the small dirt road that led into town. Hitting the only paved road in town- main street, I turn and park on the side of the road by the mercentile. I turn off my car and get out, stepping inside of the building. "Hey Mary" I say to the girl behind the register, and the young 15 year old waves cheerfully back at me. "Mornin'" She says light-heartedly before scanning the customer's milk. I didn't know many people, and those that I knew were mainly kids due to my job as a hunter-safety instructor. I run my fingers through my dark hair and grab a basket. Placing some milk, eggs, and sandwhich ingredients inside, I head back to check out.

[ Well not really, but I'd prefer a female about his age, if that's ok ]

Re: M.I.A. In Washington State
Alexandra Quest
Looking around Alex wondered where she should go from here. Her home had been burnt to the ground about 19 days ago and right now, she was trying to find a place to stay. Everyone knew it was arson, but the culprit hadn't been found. Her car had also been stolen. But she didn't want to wait in that town, so she left. Obviously, by foot, as she despised public transport, for reasons she didn't quite understand. She had some money with her so she was able to buy a hotel or sorts each night to stay in and clean up. Enough food to survive and stay healthy on and water. Wondering whether she'd be able to find a place to stay, Alex groaned and stretched her hands high above her head. She was in the middle of nowhere, afterall. To be honest, Alex had been wandering for 2 days without a sign of any life. But, before she could complain anymore, a motel came into view. Grinning, she quickened her pace. Making her way over, Alex walked inside and paid for a room for the night. Grabbing her key, she went to her room and before she could do anything, she collapsed on the bed. Alex was ensnarled with darkness, followed by the nightmares.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Running, running, running. Alex's legs didn't seem to be there. they were numb and it seemed she wasn't moving. Her eyes closed for a moment before she opened them again. There, she wasn't moving, she was looking down upon the world. At a young girl, maybe 7, with short red hair and emerald green eyes filled with disbelief and horror. She was running for her life through a forest. It was the middle of the night and the howls of wolves could be heard. The young girl pushed her way through overhanging branches and bushes as she ran, nearly tripping over an unknown object. Managing to collect herself before she continued to run for her life. Behind the young girl three shadowy figures followed her, splitting apart to try and corner her. Running, running, running. Endless running. Legs carrying the young girl as fast and as far as they could take her. Before the figures caught up to her. Up ahead a cabin could be seen and the figures whom had been chasing the girl, grabbed her small, fragile shoulders. A scream for help escaped her trembling lips and from the cabin came two people. A man and a woman, both middle aged and probably married. The man carried a shotgun. Upon seeing the scene, he raised the gun. Before anything else happened, the shadowy figures shot both man and woman. Followed by the dog which ran out of the cabin. The young girl screamed again, trying to break free. But the figures knocked the girl out. Alex blinked again and when she opened them, she was in a dark room, hands tied behind her back and legs shackled in chains which was tied to a post in the middle of the room. The creaking of a door sounded and whimpers escaped her trembling lips.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alex woke up with a scream. Sitting bolt up, sweat covering her whole body and shaking in fear. She knew all too well what that was. A memory. A memory in a dream. The young girl had been her. Alex couldn't remember anything else after the dark room. Nor could she remember her kidnapper's faces. Breathing shaky and heavy, Alex stepped out of the bed and went to the shower. She had a shower, washing the sweat from her petite, slender body. Then she quickly washed her red hair. It wasn't short like when she was young, but reached her waist. It was straight with single ringlets at the ends. She had the same eyes as the girl. Emerald green, with a single ribbon of velvet blue in each. She had skin inbetween fair and tan and she was average height for a 22 year old. Once out of the shower, Alex got dressed into some spare clothes she had and then went and found somewhere to eat something. She managed to find a small shop with food and she just bought a couple things and then gave the key to her room back and made her way off again. It was barely 3am but she needed to get moving. who knows when she'd get to the next town. Not that this was a town. Just a motel and a shop.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Alexandra finally found a small town, she sighed in relief. By the time she had gotten there, it was 8am. Walking around for a while, Alex looked around. Then she decided to finally find the closest bench, Alex sat down heavily and leaned back, staring at the sky. She may as well stay here for a little while. Looking around, Alex found herself sitting beside a wooden cabin. It looked exactly like the cabin in her dream. Or, well similar, anyway. Sighing, Alex wondered if anyone lived here. Standing up, Alex walked to the door and stood there, pondering whether to knock or just make her way in or just leave... If they came out, what could she say? 'Oh, hi, I was just wondering if somebody lived here.' yeah, don't think so.
Re: M.I.A. In Washington State
Adam
A shadow danced across my lawn, followed by the figure of a girl, about my age, looking as though she was lost. She walked up to my doorstep, but seemed to be waging war inside herself. I slowly stand, silence ringing my ears like an ancient torture method. I take my colt pistol that I had been cleaning and slid the final part into place with a quiet click. I hold my gun where she could not see it and step up to the door like she had. I grab the brass handle and pull the door open. A rush of cool air carressed my face. I prop the door open with my foot. "Can I help you?" I say, not too rough, but with an assertive tone. I didn't like strange people, they made me nervous. There was always a chance that they somehow knew me from the past, and odds are if they were from the past, they didn't like me. I push the safety off my colt and res my finger on the barrel of the gun. Not quite ready to shoot but prepared for anything.
Standing there, hand in the air, ready to knock, but hesitating yet again, Alex was about to back down. Then the door opened and she jumped as the voice of a man reached her ears. She stepped back, hands instantly moving infront of her face, hands spread apart in a type of surrender/apology gesture. "Oh, um, i'm sorry. I was just wondering if anybody lived here, is all," Alex replied. Yeah, nice going. Said exactly what I didn't want to say. She thought to herself. How smart of her. Alex noticed his hand behind himself, hiding something, and her curiousity peaked. And the tone from when he spoke before came back to her. Something suggested something was not right. "Are you alright? You seem... nervous or worried about something," she asked softly. Sure, she didn't even know this man's name and she was already prying, but, hey, that was Alex for ya.
I notice her surprise and obvious innocence. I relaxed slightly and turned the safety back on. "Oh, okay" I say. She was curious now. Great, nice going, Adam. I set the gun on an end table nonchalantly and return to the door. "Yea, I'm fine" I answer her question and then do something I swore I'd never do. "Do you want to come in for a little bit? It doesn't look like fun hiking weather.." I say, then notice the bag she had. Was she hiking? I felt my anxiety jump a little but forced it back. Really? She was just another woman, lost or something in this small town. Not some trained assasin looking for her target so she could carefully kill him without anyone noticing his absence.
Watching the man, relaxing as he relaxed, Alex awaited an answer. When he answered her, she nodded in acknowledgement and then the man asked her if she wanted to come inside. "Hiking?" Alex asked softly then glanced abck at the bag she wore and chuckled, "yeah I guess you could say that. Thanks for letting me, though," she said and stepped inside, looking at the gun at the end of the table. Didn't exactly bring back fond memories, but Alex had always been fascinated in guns, despite not knowing a thing about them. Actually, basically everything interested her. Other then humans themselves, and houses and other such day to day things. She looked around the interiorof the cabin, before her gaze turned back to the gun. She walked to the end of the table and looked at it, before she looked at Adam. "May I?" she asked, gesturing to pick up the gun, her eyes alight with curiousity and excitement.
I tense when she asks to use the gun and seemed to think about it for a great while. I walk over to it and pull out the magazine. "Sure" I say and hold the gun by the barrel, letting her take the handle. "You can just set your bag down anywhere if you'd like" I tell her as I step into the kitchen half of the room. "Would you like some hot cocoa? It's really all I have" I say, putting a kettle on the stove to heat up some water. I rest my eyes, but immediately fall victim to a flashback of the war. This one of the crack of a jet and the erupting flames of a napom. I flinch and goosebumps erupt up and down my arms. I turn around and look out the window above my sink at the forest shrubbery.
As he held the gun towards and her told she could put her bag down anywhere, alex slipped it off, carefully placing it on the ground before she took the handle of the gun. As he asked if she'd like some hot cocoa, Alex grinned, "yes please," she replied and then brought the gun towards her, examining it. Turning it every which way and looking at it, Alex was smart enough not to flick the safety off. She tested its weight in each hand and then pointed it ahead, holding the gun in both hands. Alex grinned and then glanced into the kitchen to see Adam flinch over something. "Are you alright?" she asked softly, though she didn't dare walk over to him. She may have been stupid enough to come into an unknown man's home, whom happened to have a gun, mind you, but she wasn't going to go up to him and comfort him or whatever.[center]
"Yea, sorry, I'm fine" I say through my teeth. I felt anger and light-headed and several other feelings as I turned the stove off and poured two mugs. I put one and a half scoops in each cup and stirred them, then placed them on the coffee table. I picked one up and took a drink. "You like guns?" I asked her. I wasn't sure why I did, but I did. I could feel the warm drink go all the way down to my stomach and sit down on the couch.
Nodding softly as he replied and then brought the drinks out, Alex carefully placed the gun on the table again. She took one cup and took a sip. Then he asked if she liked guns. She glanced out a window, pondering.. Did she like them? "Yes and no. I do like them, but at the same time, they terrify me," she replied, glancing down at the gun before looking back at Adam and taking another sip. My green and blue eyes watching him carefully before glancing away for a moment.
I nod "Same here" I say, the words almost a whisper. I take another drink and watch the small fireplace that was missing it's warm fire. It was a normal life. A normal, safe, boring, uneventful life full of predicability and no requirements. Without any missions or enemies. I was glad to be living this way, sure, but was I happy? I clench my jaw and try to veer my mind from the topic. "So, do you live around here?" I asked her, pale blue eyes looking momentarily over at her.
As Adam spoke again, Alex looked over at him. When he finally asked if she lived around here, she had finished the drink and she made herself useful and went and washed up the cup and whatever was beside the sink. "Nope, nowhere near here, actually. I've been walking, for what? Twenty days. My house was burnt to the ground. It was suspected as arson. So, technically I don't have a home," she replied lightly and looked over at Adam and grinned. "But it's not all that bad. When you don't have a home, you can see both the beauty and the ugliness of the world. It's opened my eyes to alot of things, actually," she said and chuckled softly. Finishing the dishes, Alex dried her hands and walked over to her bag. Crouching down, she searched inside for something.
I listen closely to her voice as she explains the tragedy in such a calm voice. I nod when she finished "It's a terrible loss, but how you are handling it is amazing" I say and take the final drink of my cocoa and do the same a she had. This time placing the two cups in a very empty dishwasher and then lifting the door up until it latches. I rest my elbows on the cool counter top, looking out the window while she rummaged around in her back pack. I didn't want to be nosy, but who wouldn't be curious. I tried not to look over at her, and instead watched the few and spread out vehicles that passed by.
Alexandra
There were a few things of value in her bag, but not what she was searching for. Groaning, Alex rocked back on her heels, thinking back to where it might be. She knew she had it 2 weeks ago, but it was gone now. That was strange. Sighing, Alex stood up, tripping over herself. She was heading straight for the table. Crap. Alex twisted slightly, bending her body back ever so slightly, just managing to miss the table. She landed on her shoulder and the girl groaned. Pushing herself into a sitting position, Alex rubbed her shoulder lightly with a sigh. "Guess I need to train some more..." she mumbled under her breath. On her way down, though, she had knocked her bag. A couple things fell out. Which included an old book that would be decades old, a picture of a young girl with red hair and green eyes with her grandparents, parents and two brothers. Both older. The girl would've been around 7. And the other thing which fell out was a dagger, the sheath had slid off half way down the blade.. The sheath and the hilt was a velvet blue with the pattern of a white chinese dragon ensnarling its way around it as clamping it shut. Where the hilt and sheath connect, teeth from some sort of creature, probably a wolf or some sort of canine, sat there, looking as it the animal the teeth belonged to was trying to keep you from drawing the dagger. The blade itself used to be silver, but now it was red, stained with blood. Alex had never used the dagger herself, but it had been her family's. It had been handed down generation after generation, that's all she could remember. Afterall, she had no memories of her life from 15 and under. Except the same nightmare which replayed everytime she went to sleep. One would think she would've gotten used to it. But, no.
I saw her mid fall and went to help her but she was already on the ground when I had rounded the corner. "Are you ok?" I ask her, then catch sight of the dager, picture and book. I ponder them for a second, before looking back at the girl.
Looking at Adam as he came around the corner, Alex laughed softly. "Fine, fine. Just tripped, is all," she replied and laughed soflty. She picked up the book, placed it in the bag carefully and then sheathed the dagger and grabbed the picture. She looked at it for a moment, before placing both into the bag and doing it back up. Then she realised something. "Oh yeah, how rude of my. I'm Alexandra. Alexandra Quest, but you can just call me Alex," she said with a smile before standing up, wincing softly as her shoulder trobbed. Okay, so, she'd have a bruise there tomorrow.
I nod "Nice to meet you, I'm Adam Revequint" I say and stand up. Feeling silly now that she wasn't hurt or anything. I straighten out my shirt and take a heavy breath. "So you don't have anywhere particular you're going?" I say, not sure why anyone would just up and leave completely by foot. I found it hard to imagine someone doing such a thing.
Grinning, Alex glanced around the cabin again before looking at Cain. "Nope, I'm just wandering around for now. Until I find somewhere to settle down and stay." she replied lightly. She saw his expression, wondering why she'd walk all the way here and she actually started laughing. A beautiful, melodic sound. When she calmed down, Alex grinned. "I know what your thinking. 'Why would someone be so foolish as to leave on foot', right? Or something like that. My house was set of fire, but my car was stolen along the way. Nice combination, ey?" she said, moving a stand of red hair behind her ear.
"Oh" I say, even though I still didn't completely understand why she didn't just stay in the town. I glance outside and then look back at her. Not really sure what I should say or do. It was sort of an awkward situation at the moment...
Standing there as the silence passed between them, Alex's thoughts got the better of her. Who was this man, really? Why did he have a gun? Why was he staying here, away from everything? And why did he seem so cautious and guarded? Alex leaned against a nearby wall and stared at the ceiling for a moment. "Soooo..." she said, "Adam... May I ask why you're living here, away from everyone? Oh, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to. I was just curious and I guess I just want to know a bit more about you. You kinda sparked my interest, I guess," she said with a light grin.
Caught off guard by her sudden question, I rub the back of my head and shrug. "Rough history, I guess.." I say, and glance over at a cabinet in the corner. Inside were a few awards from the military and such. I avert my eyes and look at my feet instead. "My parents didn't like that I quit the armed forces and moved here.." I add. I didn't really want to give a away too much, but I didn't want her to think I was some crazy phyco-killer who moved out here to take advantage of wanderers like her.
