Painted Promise- The Kill Auction
Name: Leonardo
Breed: unknown
Gender: gelding
Personality: Leonardo had been abused quite severely. He had wounds all over his body and badly malnourished and was untrusting of anybody. But he's a fast learner, so Leo will quickly learn he can trust some people. He has a few scars over his body, but will quickly be on his way to full recovery.
Standing in the stall, waiting to be auctioned off, Leonardo stared idly at the ground. He knew where he was going. The doggers. He was going to sold and killed. It was, afterall, his fate. The large white gelding hung his head, scared and ashamed. Then he saw a hand moving towards him. His head flund up towards the roof and he half reared with a loud neigh. But the rope which tied him down yanked at his head, pulling him back to the ground. He stared at the little girl who was now scurrying away in fear. His ears flicked back and the whites of his eyes were visible. He didn't mean to frighten the girl, but he didn't want anyone touching him anymore.
His owner walked towards him, seeming to be a nice person, but as Leo met his gaze, the human's eyes turned hostile and full of hatred. What ahd he done? Leonardo pulled his head as high as he the rope would allow, but his owner grabbed his lead and pulled his head down. Then he was led out of the stall and into the auction ring. Leonardo was led to the middle of the ring and then he saw all the people surrounding him. The large white gelding froze, refusing to move despite his owner growling harshly at him to move. No. No. No, no, no. There were too many people. Too many, too many.
Leonardo reared, shrill neigh escaping the huge gelding's muzzle. His owner jerked him to the ground, raising a whip. Leonardo started to shake in fear, flinching, afraid that the whip would be brought down upon him. But, no. It didn't. Leonardo still had open wounds from the abuse he ahd to suffer with his owner. Even if he had to die, he was thankful he'd be leaving this man today.
"Leonardo; a large white gelding of unknown breeding. As you can see, he's not very trusting of people, though his wounds are due to him trying to escape a paddock and getting caught in a barbed wire fence," he announcer said through the mike. A lie. A lie. It was all lies. He didn't try to escape a paddock. He had never been in a paddock before! "We shall start the bidding at $250," which, yes, was very low pricing, but his owner wanted him gone no amtter what.He was sick of the gelding. Had grown bored of abusing this horse. Leonardo knew, now that he was going, his owner would buy another horse to abuse until he got sick of that one.

Re: Painted Promise- The Kill Auction
Madison breathed deeply, glancing at her father, who was sitting on the edge of his seat. This was hard, so painfull to see. Thier whole line of work was that way, in the beginning. Suddenly, a new horse was brought into the ring.
He was pitiful.
He had a dirty white coat, with sunken dull eyes. Scars and open wounds wrapped around his body, some oozing with infection. His feet were grown out, too long to be comfortable to walk on anylonger.
Madison pushed back tears. Her father looked at her, asking her what she wanted to do. That was the thing that was so special between them, they understood eachother.
The teen nodded, and her father gave her a breif, understanding smile.
He raised the number, high enough to be spotted.
No one raised thier own.
The poor horse was extremley thin, with his ribs sticking out, and his hipbones protruding. He looked like someone had glued a bunch of bones together, then put some skin over it, that was all.
Madison knew it right away.
She would be saving this horse, tonight.

Re: Painted Promise- The Kill Auction
Seeing a man raise his number, bidding on the gelding, Leonardo shuddered. He hoped, just hoped his death was quick. Then he saw movement in the corner of his eye and saw his owner stepping towards him. The large gelding nickered in fright, taking a step back himself. He didn't want to be closer to him. Leo noticed nobody else bidded on the stallion, not finding any use in bidding on the worthless horse. That's it. He was sold. To be away from this cruel man forever. Finally. He was free. Whether that freedom led him to his death or not, he didn't know; nor did he care.
He was led out of the ring, all to Leonardo's relief. He was tied a little way away from the ring and his owner left to get the money for the gelding. He lowered his head with a relieved sigh. It was over. The frightened gelding shook in a mixture of fear and relief. He was sore, weak and ugly. He had no will to live anymore. He didn't care what happened to him.

Re: Painted Promise- The Kill Auction
After the gelding was led out of the ring, Madison nearly crawled and leaped over people and chairs to get into the isle, leaving her father back in the seats, to finish everything up. It was her job to load the horse, as she was trusted with it.
Ususually, but not always, horses tended to trust women more. Men were usually the culprits of abuse, but not always. She reached the truck and opened the door, pulling out a carrot from the dashboard. After closing and locking it once again, she raced to the barn and slipped inside.

Re: Painted Promise- The Kill Auction
Leonardo closed his eyes, wondering what would happen to him now. His ears flicked around, listening to everything around him. Then he heard someone walking towards him, or, well, running towards him. Then stopping. Leo raised his head and opened his eyes, looking at the girl who stood before him, holding a carrot. His ears flicked backa nd forth, unsure of this human girl who obviously wanted to be friendly to him. He stepped back, away from the girl, watching for her reaction. His body quivering in caution and fear.
His gentle, large eyes watched the girl closely, his beaten body dirty and sore. His head lowered, ears moving to a move relaxed position. Though he didn't trust this girl, he may as well see what she wanted from him.

Re: Painted Promise- The Kill Auction
"Good, Good boy."
Madison spoke soft and low, praising the Gelding gently. She didn't make any move to come nearer, and the pain and suffering in those beautiful gentle eyes of his, made her swallow.
"Shh... Everything will be better now, I promise."
Her voice grew quieter, and she glanced around, seeing glances from other buyers, letting her know that they thought she was crazy. Who would ever want a horse like that!

Re: Painted Promise- The Kill Auction
Leonardo watched the girl, relaxing slightly as she spoke. The large gelding saw the people eyeing her, not beleiving someone would want a horse like him. His ears flicked back and his head rose high, drawing himself up to his full height. He was taller then everybody here and despite being thin adn beaten, he was still an intimidating horse. They muttered their surprise and scurried away and Leonardo snorted in satisfaction. He didn't care what they thought about the girl, but Leo was a proud horse, even after abuse.
He relaxed when they all looked away and scurried off and he turned his gaze back to the girl. He reached over to her, nosing her hand which held the carrot and he bite half of it, leaving half of the carrot in her palm, despite being able to eat the whole thing.

Re: Painted Promise- The Kill Auction
Madison smiled, feeling the familiar touch of a soft, velvety muzzle on her palm. Before the horse could draw away, she stroked his muzzle softly, then let her hands down to her sides, one hand still holding a half of carrot. She uncoiled the lead rope in her hand, but let the rope fall to the ground, only her hand grasping the hook.
It was time to get this horse home.

Re: Painted Promise- The Kill Auction
Snorting as she touched his muzzle, Leonardo watched the girl closely. Then as she untied the lead rpe, barly holding onto it, the large gelding looked around. Were they leaving? Where was the man which had bought him? Leo decided to drop the question and when the girl started to walk, Leo hesitated. He pulled against the lead for a moment before he walked out, following the girl with as much distance as possible. Though, whenever people tried to touch him, he'd either shy away from them or snap at them.
When they eventually came to the trailer, Leonardo froze. No. He hated trailers. He didn't know why, but they scared him. Leo stared at the trailer, then at the girl. Did she really want him to go in there? No.

Re: Painted Promise- The Kill Auction
Madison felt the stud jerk to a stop as they reached the trailers entrance, and Madison nonchalantly tied him directly behind the trailer. Then, so he could see, she walked inside and stuffed a flake of fresh alfalfa hay into the hay bag, then exited with a empty bucket, heading to the spickett and filling it. Then, she placed the bucket of water next to the horse, he needed to be hydrated. But the food was waiting inside the trailer.
Madison sat down in the straw and turned her back on him.

Re: Painted Promise- The Kill Auction
Leonardo watched as the girl put a biscut of hay in the trailer and then went and filled a bucket of water. As she put it next to him and then walked inside the trailer, sitting down, facing away from him, Leo looked down at the water. A moment later, he lowered his head and sarted drinking. He had a big, long drink and then looked around. tHere was noone watching him. The girl had her back to him.
Ears flicking forward, Leonardo watched the girl, then looked at the hay. Snorting slightly, the large horse managed to untie himself and he took a slow step inside. Slowly, slowly, he walked inside the trailer until he could reach the hay where he lowered his head and started eating.

Re: Painted Promise- The Kill Auction
Madison pretended not to hear the hoofsteps on the trailer floor behind her, nor the rustling of the soft hay. As soon as he was inside, she slowly stood, but didn't make any move to close the door, not yet. She walked down and out of the trailer, picking up the water bucket and setting it down near the horse, glad to see that he was eating and drinking. He really did need to get fattened up.

Re: Painted Promise- The Kill Auction
Ignoring the girl as she stood, Leonardo continued to eat. He flicked his tail in mild contempt and acknowledged the girl as she placed the water near him. He raised his head, looking down at the small girl standing before him. His large eyes studied her, watching for any movement she made. His head cocked to the side slightly, he was confused with this girl. Why was she beign so nice to him?
Leo snorted, though didn't turn his gaze away from the girl. Though, after a few long moments, he turned his attention away and started to eat again. Boy was he hungry.

Re: Painted Promise- The Kill Auction
Madison slowly, slowly slid the door closed behind him, the well oiled door sliding smoothly in place. She sat back down onto the straw, but kept the door open a tiny bit to be sure she could get out if he started to go nuts.
She was sitting near him, and hoped he wouldn't decide she was bad news and turn on her. She rubbed her forhead slightly, hoping her father could hurry up.

Re: Painted Promise- The Kill Auction
Not noticing the girl shutting the door, Leonardo raised his head. Then he saw the door closed and the large gleding's ears flicked back. He half reared, only to be stopped by the roof above him. He neighed loudly and then kicked at the door. He saw the girl sitting down, his breathed ragged and uneven. He eyed the girl before kicking at the door again. His head lowered to the ground and started to ground his teeth together in a nervous gesture. Though, he made no more moves to get out, nor did he try to harm the girl.
He wanted to get out, oh how he wanted to get out now. Having the door open wasn't so bad, but now he couldn't see the outside world. His whole life he had been in a stall, never to see the sky. Right now, he was also being shut off from everything else around him. He either wanted to be out of this trailer, or to see the sky somehow.

Re: Painted Promise- The Kill Auction
Seeing the stallions rage at being boxed in, Madison quickly stood, and slid open one of the windows that she and her father had cut into the trailer. Fresh air blew inwards, ruffling the horses mane slightly. There, that was better. She could hear footfalls outside, and knew it was her father coming.
Time to go home.
Time to go home.

Re: Painted Promise- The Kill Auction
Leonardo instantly calmed as he felt the wind combing his mane and brushing his dirty coat. He flicked his tail and suddenly sneezed. The gelding drew his head back in surprise before shaking his whole body, dirt flying everywhere. Then the girl left him and he looked back at the girl, watching her leave. He looked out the trailer window with an impatient snort.
Where was he going? The girl seemed to be nice, but that could all be an act. What was going to happen to him? Leonardo groaned, feeling lost and confused.

Re: Painted Promise- The Kill Auction
Madison turned, hearing a muffled snort from the trailer, then smiled at the stud that was inside. She climbed into the passanger seat, and her dad smiled at her. "Is he ok?" He asked, and Madison nodded. "He's fine. He'll be happy to be home I think." She turned and looked out the window, and her dad started up the truck, pulling slowly onto the road.

Re: Painted Promise- The Kill Auction
Feeling the trailer jerk to a start, Leonardo braced himself, managing to catch himself before he fell. As they started to move steadily, Leonardo relaxed and took another drink. Guess it was time to go wherever they were going. He flicked his tail, ridding a few flies which dared to bother him.
