Kaede stared at him for a moment, then shook her head playfully. “Oh, yeah. Of course. That’s totally logical.” Kaede flashed him a quick smile and was about to turn when she felt his hand on her arm. She nearly pulled away. Kaede didn’t like being touched—not by anybody, no matter who they were; family or friends. She just wasn’t comfortable with it. She hid the mixed emotion, though, and blinked, hearing his question.
“Well, um, yeah. I’m sure they do… But why?” Kaede was rather confused about his question. He hadn’t even been here a day, and he was looking to buy a house? Wasn’t an apartment good enough? How men confused her.
Kaede was becoming more intrigued and more perplexed by Thane every time he opened his mouth. Of course she wasn’t used to the likes of him, but he wasn’t making much sense to her. She didn’t expect him to have enough money for a house yet, but she could just be misjudging him. Her notes on him from the pub were slowly coming back to her, and she was realizing her assumptions of him were rather wrong. Actually, they were really wrong. The one thing Kaede did know was that his personality made him think.
Coming out of her little world, she shook her head gently and said, “But I think you should rent a room for a few days, at least… I mean if you’re going to look for a house… or whatever… you’ve got to have somewhere to stay.” Kaede suggested.

His hand recoiled instantly at her reaction, almost as if he'd touched a hot pan. It was meant as a brief touch, but it was obvious she hadn't appreciated such a thing. He mentally noted not to do it again. He shifted his weight uneasily, clearing his throat before speaking again. "Uh, yeah, I think a week would be good. I've been traveling for so long, having a house would be nice. It won't be the first I've bought, and it won't be the last. When I'm ready to move on, I'll sell it." he spoke matter of factly, forgetting momentarily that it wasn't exactly the norm for people to buy and sell homes as often as he did. Though, in all the years he'd been moving around, he'd owned 3 other places, all ranch houses on a few acres of land. While he lived there, he'd buy mustangs and other assorted horses destined for slaughter, train them, and sell them off again for a pretty penny as either ranch horses, show horses, or just plain companion animals.
Thane's thought drifted suddenly to Hope. She was getting older, and she wouldn't be able to handle the life they lived now for a whole lot longer. He'd decided a while back that the next opportunity he got, he'd get a place, and while there, he'd find a suitable horse to replace Hope and send her off to a nice place to retire and live out the rest of her days as a gentle kids' horse. She was just right for it, and though he'd miss her, it'd be best for his long time companion.
He brought himself back out of his reverie, and looked at Kaede. "Shall we?" and moved toward the main desk. He told the clerk quickly what he wanted, handed over a handful of wrinkled cash, carefully counted. The clerk passed him the keys, his suspicious glare never leaving Thane. Thane nodded his head courteously and turned back to Kaede. "I'm on the second floor, room 24A." he said, unsure of where to go from here.

Kaede noticed his quick reaction to pulling back, and had half the mind to apologize, but instead she kept her mouth shut. She glanced at her feet a moment, knowing she’d created a rather awkward moment. Kaede looked back up when he cleared his throat, and nodded. “Well, the clerk’s over there…” Kaede nodded with her head before putting her hands behind her back.
The idea of him moving on surprised her. Many people bought houses and lived in them for years and years, but by the sounds of it, he wasn’t planning on doing that. She shrugged it off and nodded. “That’s fine. It’ll be your house—it’s your decision what you do with it.” Kaede smiled, the awkwardness starting to wear down. She watched him as he lost himself in thought, and she wondered what exactly he was thinking of. It’d be interesting, she thought, to get into his mind sometime and see what it was like to be him.
When he came back from his thoughts, she watched him go over and get a room, then came back over to her and tell her which room he had. Kaede nodded slowly. “I’m on this floor,” she said. “But if you need me to, I can help you find your room. If not, just take the elevator that’s around the corner there.”

[no problem, I've got two other live RPs going at the same time as this one, so I'll be slow too.]
The thought had crossed his mind to invite her up for coffee, but he quickly realized that he didn't have any coffee to make. He'd have to make a quick trip to the grocer if he was going to eat for the next few days. Just for the sake of conversation, he decided to speak his thoughts out loud for a change. "I'd invite you up for coffee, but I'm afraid there isn't any. Or, anything, for that matter." He smiled sheepishly, taking a deep breath, his calloused hand coming up to rub the back of his neck. He was just realizing how sore his neck was... well, how sore everything was.
Thane wanted to get to know her more, but he didn't want to keep her up, either. After all, they'd just met, and he wasn't all too sure if he was the type of person she'd want to spend time around. So far it had been a good experience, but he didn't want to push it. "You're free to do what you like, of course, no need to stick around if you don't want to." he looked at her curiously then, sure in his mind that she'd skidaddle as soon as she could.

Kaede wondered why he was just standing there for a moment, when he opened his mouth to talk. She listened intently to his offer, and she smiled gently. “You do know that I have coffee in my apartment, right?” Kaede said teasingly. “If you want, you can come to my room and we can talk a little. If not, you can go to your room and get settled in.” Kaede shrugged halfheartedly. Honestly, she didn’t care what his answer was. It would be nice to have somebody to talk to, but she’d probably end up just writing down a whole bunch of story-like things and, quite frankly, her apartment room was a mess. She groaned inwardly. She’d have to clean it up sooner or later.
She was snapped out of her thoughts when he started talking again, smiling at his comment. “I appreciate your concern,” Kaede paused a moment. She didn’t really know if it was concern or just nervousness that she wouldn’t like him. She wasn’t very good at reading people, so she hurriedly continued. “It doesn’t matter. We could hang out now, or later. But if you come to my apartment, I have to warn you, it’s sort of messy. Lots of books and papers and stuff…” Kaede trailed off, unsure of what to say next. She should probably just wait for his answer.

Thane chuckled at her response, before gesturing to his whole body, "In all honesty, a little mess isn't going to bother me one bit." he grinned. He was half wondering if he should shower first, or at least change. He had his things in his saddle bags, the largest holding a few shirts, a pair of jeans, and a few other necessities. Well, why the hell not, the duster kept me clean for the most part. It was then he pulled off the coat, draping it over his arm and looking himself over. He wasn't in too bad of shape, his black shirt was still mostly black, and only from the knee-down did his jeans start looking bad. His boots... lordy, his boots... they'd need a lot of attention later.
He looked up then, his grey eyes giving her a quick once over for the first time, before nodding and flashing her a smile "That would be nice. I could use a little civil conversation."
[sorry for the short post, my brain is completely dead, apparently]

Kaede nodded, suddenly feeling rather foolish. She smiled at him, quite conscience of his eyes wandering, but only for a minute. She shifted uncomfortably for a moment, then looked up into his eyes as he began talking again. She nodded and grinned, her confidence returning. “All right, then follow me.” She smiled and then added teasingly over her shoulder, “And it’s not a race to see who can get there first. Wouldn’t be fair to beat a cowboy twice in a row, now would it?” Kaede turned and began walking down a long corridor until she reached the very end, and rummaged in her purse a moment before pulling out her keys and unlocking the door.
Kaede opened the door and sighed, looking at her pitiful apartment. There were stacks of half-finished stories on lined paper, or printed, almost on every table, and books were overflowing out of the bookshelves. Pens were scattered here and there, and a laptop was buried under a stack of blank papers. “God, I need to clean up,” Kaede murmured before ushering him in and closing the door behind them. “Make yourself at home—feel free to move anything around so you can find a place to sit. I don’t mind.” Kaede busied herself putting her purse down and getting ready to make some coffee.
“How do you like your coffee?” she asked.
[ it’s fine. I’m more creative at night… lol ]
