It was her fatal attraction - will I become yours too?
Fatal strutted beneath the dappled canopy of leaves; diamond shadows from the overhead leaves decorating his gleaming golden coat. His strong muscles stretched and rippled as he travelled, his elegant neck curved high in pride. His ebony nostrils flared, breathing in the earthy aromas of the forest which surrounded him. He was in his fourth year of life - young and in his prime. Yet still rather inexperienced within the ways of life, for he was a young and rambunctious stallion. The Arabian snorted and chucked his head as he lurched into a lope, slowly cantering along the path, leaping overfallen tree trunks and avoiding the thick undergrowth with nimble steps.
A gentle breeze lifted the thick tangles of black mane from his sweating neck and blew the heavy forelock from his huge, inquisitive eyes. He was a wandering soul, although he wasn't troubled, he was green and flighty. It was his first season away from his home herd, and away from his dam. His dam had been a domestic mare before he was conceived. She was an Arabian show mare, the pride of the barn. When she'd escaped during a show escaped gone awry, she had made her way high into the hills, searching for adventure. She'd found it when she fell for a rugged and untamable mustang stallion, who made her apart of his herd. She'd stayed with him for a time, happy to find out that she was in foal with his child. However, not too long thereafter, Ranger's band was driven out of their happy homeland by ranchers and, along with the rest of his herd, was captured and seperated by strong enclosures, never again to see another member of their tightly knit band again. Fatal's dam was returned to her rightful owners, but desperate to return to the wild made a second escape. It was beneath a shady oak that she'd given foal to a knobby-kneed colt with a coat the color of the sun and mane and tail as dark as night. They were adopted by another stallion and accepted without question into the herd.
This herd was that which Fatal had previously left, in hope to expand his own knowledge of the world and, perhaps some day, take a mate of his own.
Fatal kicked up his heels, tossed his head. For now, he was simply pleased with the solo life of a bachelor. Snorting again, he accelerated, his hooves drumming a steady tempo agains the face of the earth.

I made my way through the curving forest. My breath coming in pants. My eyes open to all surroundings. Ears, pivoting to catch all the sounds of Redwood Forest. My mane and tail battered against my flesh and the air. Wind swept the sweat from my face into the whisking wind.I slowed to a stop, my flaxen mane slapped my neck as I came to an immediate stop...I had wandered into an opening. My eyes set upon a moving object in the distance. I pawed at the ground and grunted. I decided I would leave him to his play...unless he came to notice I was here. I grazed along the side of a river near by, the wind gently sweeping my tail and mane away from me, as though a child was being taken from their mother. I snorted and raised my head to look to the skies as I heard a crowing of a black bird. I reared and neighed to it. As I always thought of black birds to be a reminder of my dead family. I snorted and began to continue my pleasant 'me' time in grazing.

Re: It was her fatal attraction - will I become yours too?
Fatal's breaths became labored as he travelled, and he slowed to a comfortable trot, then a calming walk once more. His sides heaved slightly, and a light sheen of sweat gleamed over his healthy coat. He paused to sniff at the fallen leaves underhoof absently, his lobes swivelling and flicking to take in the sounds around him. Shifting his weight from hoof to hoof, he champed his teeth distractedly and took the the time to glance about him, truly acknowledging his surroundings for the first time. He really had no inkling as to where he was. How long had he been travelling? The previous day and nights had blurred together into one long countless cycle. He sighed, blinking long black lashes and shaking his tangled mane out absently. The noise of birdsong sang about him in all directions, and he enjoyed their lyrics pleasantly for some time.
But then there was another noise.
Something new, yet all-together familiar. The sound of a whinny, that sound which could never be mistaken for another noise. Fatal started in alarm, having not expected to encounter another equine at this time. Tensing for a moment, he blew out a loud snort through his nostrils and lifted his proud head high, bright eyes probing the shadows about him. Inhaling deeply, he took a few spirited steps in the direction of the neigh and paused once more, alert, his posture erect and alert. He swatted his tail against his flanks a few moments, and pranced to the side, bobbing his head. Unsure as to if he should approach the stranger, he decided upon returning the call with one of his own. Inhaling, Fatal emitted a deep bellow, and then a second. Then he fell silent, leaning forward onto his forehooves eagerly, his ears listening and liquid eyes searching. He pawed absently at the leaves a few times, then called once more, tossing his muzzle out as he whinnied.

I continued to graze casually...that is until I heard the stallion I saw frolicking, give out a bold neigh. My head shot up. I looked about...the noise sounded closer than the stallion was...so maybe he decided to find me. I snorted and looked around thinking he could be lurking in the shadows like a monstrous beast I always heard about in Grandpa's crazy stories...thinking about my Grandpa only brought me back to thinking about the deaths in my family. I shook my head falling out of the deep thought and starring that erupted. I glanced around a few times. I began to walk, swishing my tail around. I walked over the hill, to see the stallion standing bold. My ears went forward and I jerked my head up, head high, watching with curious, yet dangerous blackberry eyes. I starred at him and snorted, I neighed back to him and then decided I didn't want to stick around this part...so I went back down by the creek to continue grazing.
(i know..lame...couldnt think of anything. :PP)

Re: It was her fatal attraction - will I become yours too?
Fatal's head turned sharply towards the inclining slope, where the source of the whinny stood above him, gazing down. He watched the mare for a moment, silently. His ears pressed towards her, and he pivoted his frame to face the mare directly, tilting his head with slight curiosity. He wondered what brought this other mare to the forest as well? He didn't approach her, but simply awaited to see what her next move would be. He couldn't deny that he'd been loney these past long, tiresome months. The thought of setting out once more without so much as a word to another creature sent him rigid. Although she didn't seem to be too interested in his company as she turned away from him, he decided on following her retreating form nonetheless. He didn't pursue her with speed for fear he may frighten her away, but simply strolled with lazy steps up the slope and crested the top to look down on her as she'd previously done to him. With a low whuffle of his lips, he slowly began the descent, picking his footing precisely and making it known by his posture and silence that he had no intentions of causing trouble. As he approached her, he offered a warm grin, and halted a respectful distance away.
"Greetings, stranger," he nodded politely.

I glared at him for a few moments. I focused my eyes onto his and the sunlight seem to dance in my black eyes. I snorted and shook my head. My brain finally signaled a response.
"Hello..."
I said gently.

Re: It was her fatal attraction - will I become yours too?
Fatal took in her appearance with wide, searching eyes. She was a lovely mare, her own coat hue not so far away from his. She seemed to be strong and appeared to have a sweet nature. He smiled once more and shook out the dust from his coat absently. She also seemed to have a quiet gentleness about her that he couldn't quite comprehend.
"My name is Fatal. I was just passing through, are you from around these parts?" he gazed into her eyes for a moment, noting the way the sun seemed to reflect there, glimmering and adding a lively spark to her liquid orbs. "What is it that you are called?" he asked as well.

I smiled back at him and shook my maw. I nickered gently.
"No..I'm not. I basically...wandered here... and my name is Typhoon"
I admired his coat and his sense of casualty.

Re: It was her fatal attraction - will I become yours too?
He chuckled. "A fellow wanderer? Do you have a destination in mind, Typhoon?" He regarded her with a quiet curiosity, gazing with wonder, but not persistence. He wasn't demanding, but simply happy to be in company at last with another of his kind. Overhead, the sun travelled across the sky, lowering slowly and casting more shade. The shadows were lenghtening as twilight drew near, and the tired birds were finishing up their song and gossip.

"No...I do not have a destination to pursue. I simply...am wondering."
I grinned and nickered lowering my head to rub on my leg to itch.

Re: It was her fatal attraction - will I become yours too?
Fatal nodded, musing. He turned his chiselled face to glance over his shoulder absently, then lowered his muzzle slowly to the stems of grass underhoof, his lips twitching to nibble at the stalks absently for a moment. It was silent but for the sounds of the stallion gently tearing at the spring grass, the sound of his tail shooing away insects around his flanks, the sound of the breeze whispering through the leaves. The slanting sunlight glimmered between the vertical trunks of the trees, almost out of sight now and casting a hot red light upon the land.
Fatal lifted his head once more. "I too am wandering." he mentioned casually, shaking out his mane a few times and then lowering his muzzle to resume his grazing.

I snorted and watched him. I shook my flaxen mane about, landing in tangles on my neck. I nodded.
"Ah...I have never met anyone who wanders as I do...very interesting..."
My words mumbled off into a stutter and I began to graze.

Re: It was her fatal attraction - will I become yours too?
Fatal grunted a reply, and continued to graze. A part of him inclined to ask her if she'd like to travel with him, and the part of him decided against it. They'd barely just learned one another's names... Perhaps if they might chat a bit more, spend a few days together even? He himself, naturally, was in no hurry to arrive at some unknown destination. Not to mention, he was tired. He peered up at Typhoon from behind his thick forelock and replied,"Nor have I. You're the first horse I've encountered, and I've been travelling for many moons."

I lifted my head and smiled. My heart urged for him to ask me to join him...She had a friend now...even if they went separate ways. I nickered.
"Ah...I see...so have I."

Re: It was her fatal attraction - will I become yours too?
Fatal lifted his head, silently regarding her for a moment. He opened his mouth as if he were about to ask her something, and then he froze. Every muscle in his body stiffened; his frame went rigid as a fresh breeze brought him news of a new scent. A scent that hadn't been there before. His nostrils flared wide, and his eyes went wild, showing the whites. Tossing his head, he inhaled rapidly, glancing nervously about him in all directions. The odor was nothing familiar to him, and yet somehow it terrified him to the very bone. Like an ancient evil engrained in his mind, his natrual instincts were telling him something. "Do you smell that?" he asked sharply, pawing the earth frantically and giving Typhoon an urgent stare.

I looked at him with a confused look.
"No I do not..."
I feared something was wrong though...I looked at him...Maybe sense I was a friend...I hoped... Maybe he would care to protect me.
