Hermes, the lone foal

I cautiusly walk to thhe edge of the water, ears pricked for the sound of other horses. As I drank I remembered, two months ago, flailing hooves coming down on my head, the sound of mum's voice. "OUT GET OUT! NEVER SHOW YOUR ROTTEN FACE HERE AGAIN!" The fear, the pain, the backness, as I ran, ran from that awful schreeching voice. I winced.
My eyes welled up with tears, the wounds on my head were throbbing again. I would never, could never trust horses again after that day I was abandoned, but I still wished I had someone to help and care for me. I was slowly starving to death, and I knew it.

As much as I was scared, I wanted a new set of parents, ones that wouldn't leave me to die.

*a filly walked over to him* "h...h...hello i'm Summer"

I look up in fright, then back away, tensing to run. "D..d... don't h.. hurt me"

*i look at him* "how can i hurt you,i'm as big as you"

"Oh," I sigh in relief "Ever since I was abandoned, even fillies like yourself look like big, scary adult horses."

*i sigh and hang my head* "i know how you feel"

"really?" I perk my ears

*i lift my head* "yes,my mother abandoned me after my sister died"

"I'm so sorry" I winnie sorofully. "My father and brother were killed by humans. After that, my mom went, strange. She started muttering, and her eyes got a wierd misty look to them, then one day," I gulped remembering the terror that I had felt. "She attacked me and told me to leave and never come back."

*i nuzzle him* "i'm sorry"

"It's okay" I say trying to sound more confident than I really am, when suddenly the hunger of the long absence of milk kicks in and I sink weakly to my knees. "Ooh," I mutter weakly

"what is it"

"I...i'm still nursing and haven't had anything but gass and water for 2 months. It's a miracle I've lasted this long."

*i lay down next to him*

I start to feel a little better and get weakly to my feet, " as much as I hate to admit it, I think we would both be better off if we had parents."

*i get up and stand next to him* "i agree"

"But who will take us?" I wonder aloud "Oh, I forgot to ask, are you still nursing too?"

"no,i just stopped today"

"Oh, ok" I say
(Isn't there anyone out there with a adult horse that could take care of Hermes and Summer?! Please?)

*i start grazing*
(PLEASE!!!!!)

"C'mon" I say "Let's go to the foaling grounds and see if we can find a mom and dad there" I turn to leave
