Home Is Where The Heart Is (Goddess)
"Come along, baby. Just a little longer." Love cooed to her foal, encouraging him with a little bump of her soft mug. The young colt trailed along beside her, his steps a lot slower and less jumpier than they were earlier on in the day. He was growing tired and fast. The duet had been traveling for hours on end, trying to get out of their former herd's land before it was too late. Sun grunted and then whimpered as he tripped over a thin root that protruded up from the sneaky grass. Love gave him a sympathetic look and nuzzled his hide before guiding him onward. They were almost to the edge of the forest and then they would be in Rainbow Meadows.
"Through here?" the painted colt asked, stopping at the edge of the treeline and glancing up at his mother. He admired her and prized her. Even at only a young age, he knew she had done so much for him and that he needed to respect her. His little black eyes shone with adoration and love for her. Love nodded and shoved through first, the spiny branches scratching at her patched pelt. She pushed them aside when she felt it was safe and left him pass through. Both were embraced in a twilight welcome, the darkening sky dotted with stars seemed to beckon them into its arms. Love smiled and started forward, sighing at the wonderful feeling of the smooth grass against her tired legs. Sun even seemed to be a bit happier as he trotted a little ahead of her. For once, she wasn't worried about him wondering off. When they crested a small hill, Love took a moment to rest and gaze out around them at their surroundings. No other life forms resembling horses were present, but she knew smaller creatures were hunkering around below the grass and in the trees. "Let's find a good place to sleep, Sun." Love whispered, looking down at her child who stared at the vast expanse of meadow before him with big eyes. He slowly nodded his head and the two descended the hill together.
"Right here is nice." Sun commented as he stopped and turned to his dam. Love approached him and glanced around, noting the nice amount of trees and tall grasses. The tree tops would shelter them if it rained and the grass would keep her baby hidden. She was sure that they were perfectly safe within the Rainbow Meadows, but as a mother, she was always over protective. Sun yawned and lazily crumpled to his knees and flopped over onto his side. He sighed contently and closed his eyes, immediately letting his tired body drift away to dreamland. Love looked down upon him with loving eyes and watched him sleep for a few moments before she dropped her head and nuzzled him. "Sleep tight, baby." She whispered and then settled into a comfy position above him. Soon, she too was a sleep.

Moon trotted through the open plains, head high, tail flagged, and muscled protruding from his legs. He let out a gleeful whinny, just happy to be alive. He almost seemed to be announcing to the world, "here I am!" He broke into a forceful canter. Feeling so alive he let out a few bucks, then bolted.
When he reached the edge of the forest, he slowed to a prancy trot. he then slowed to a walk, his head low. He almost seemed to be absorbing the magic of the night through the grass. He walked, his nostrils wide and breaths huffing in and out. His ears constantly swiveled to listen to the motley sounds of the forest at night. He decided to graze on the few patches of grass protruding from the forest floor. Now slowly ambling along, he caught the scent of a young foal, and another horse. Not wanting to startle them at night, he decided to wait untill morning to approach them. He fell into a light sleep standing.

Re: Home Is Where The Heart Is (Goddess)
Sun awoke before his mother did the following morning. He rolled onto his side and stretched, his limbs splayed out in all directions, and grunted when he heard the satisfying sounds of his joints popping. "Oh." he grunted when he got to his hooves and felt the soreness in his muscles from yesterday's travels. He took a few steps forward and then looked back at his mother who stood motionless. If it weren't for her heaving sides, one would think she were dead instead of sound asleep. Deciding to explore the new land and freedom, he slowly crept away from Love until she was almost out of sight and then took off at a dead run. He laughed and jumped and bucked his heels high into the air, enjoying the feeling of freedom. He didn't get to do this often back in his old herd so this was like paradise to the young colt.

Moon walked slowly up to the colt from the trees. with his head low he gave a low wicker, letting the colt know he was safe. He stopped at about 10 feet from the foal, not wanting to scare him. Being a very compassionate and caring horse, Moon asked, "Do you have a mother? are you lost?" He did not see the sleeping mare.

Re: Home Is Where The Heart Is (Goddess)
In the midst of Sun's frolicking, the sound of an approaching intruder touched his velvet ears. The young colt froze mid buck and whimpered softly. He quietly lowered his body down close to the ground and inched his way forward towards the tall grasses. He was sure he had heard the gentle snort from in this direction. With ears alert a top his head, he elevated his head and peered out across the valley. At first he didn't see anything, but upon gazing harder through his young eyes, he found a large dun pelted stallion heading his way. Sun struggled to remain calm. He was such a young foal, barely over a year, and he had so much life a head of him. He felt his duty to watch over his mom as her protector since they had disbanded from their herd.
Taking a deep breath, Sun stood erect and faced the on coming male, his eyes narrowed and his little chest puffed out. The approaching stallion had slowed his pace and stood before Sun with his head hung low. Sun blinked at the stallion's questions as he thought of how to respond. "I am not lost and I do have a mother."He boldly stated.

Moon was surprised by his assertive behavior. Most young yearlings would come up to an older male, clicking their teeth in submission. This one however seemed he would do no submitting of the sort. "Where is she? do you want me to escort you back to her location?" Moon politely offering, unperturbed by the colt's aggression. He flicked his tail and kept his head low, his muscular body and dust colored coat radiated warmth.

Re: Home Is Where The Heart Is (Goddess)
Sun then began to grow nervous. Why did this stranger want to know where his mother was? She had warned him of bad things that stallions do to her mares and he had witnessed the marks left on his dam from their previous lifestyle. He swallowed once and glanced behind him while his mind raced. Should he lie? If he lied, the stallion might catch on and hurt him for being so disobedient. If he told the truth, the stallion might find her and hurt her. "Uhm.." he mumbled as he turned back to the big male before him, his eyes wide and his little body trembling. "My mother is asleep, resting from our travels." He finally said. He felt confident in his answer. He was well aware of where she was and he didn't need the stallion to escort him there for various reasons.
Love awoke to the feeling of absence. Her eyes flew open and immediately went to the spot where her foal had been when they drifted off. He wasn't there. Panic began to rise within her as she frantically searched the tall grasses around her. Maybe he had moved to a different spot to sleep? When she didn't find him, her panic merged into fear. "Sun!" She shouted, elevating her head to its highest length and scanned the area around her. Taking off at trot, she headed in the direction she where she had noticed indents in the grass. She could only hope they were her Sun's. If anything happened to him, she would surely go insane.
