Layla was also high alert, keeping her eyes open. She sighed and sat by the river not too far from the den and began to sing.

I looked up and watched her pad away. I smiled as she started to sing, and I listened to her beautiful voice.

Layla finished the song and turned to see Kapu watching her. She immediately felt embarrassed, and looked away.

I tilted my head a little, and looked at her. I got up slowly, and padded over to her. "Whats wrong? Your voice is beautiful..."

Layla avoided his gaze. "Nothing," Layla replied. "I just don't normally sing in front of others. But thank you." Layla turned to meet his gaze, her mesmerizing blue burning into his light emerald.

I smiled, and gracefully padded over to her. "You can sing in front of me anytime you like." I said sitting next to her.

Layla nodded but turned away to look at the river, letting the rain soak her fur. She stared up at the sky.

I looked at her, my emerald eyes darker than usual. I looked to where she was looking, and gazed at the stars.

Layla wasn't bothered by the rain much. She sighed and turned to Kapu. "I've been such a bitch to you. Why are you so nice to me?" Layla asked, flicking an ear.

I looked at her, and sighed,"Because I believe that the more nice things you do, the more nice things will happen to you. How was it that Juliet just happened to find me in that field, or how I escaped the humans. I want something better in my life, and to get there. I have to be nice." I said, trying my best to word it. It was hard to explain what I was saying in my head.

Layla sneered, "Yeah, well, I'm not nice. Everyone's just gonna have to live with that." Layla snarled, fangs flashing.

I looked at her,"No... No.... That's just how I live, you don't have to. I didn't mean anything by saying that..." I looked back at the stars,"My dad said that those were all the great alphas, up there... I want to be up there someday..."

Layla's ears pricked at his last two sentences. "Then my Grandfather is up there. Grandpa Talon was an amazing Alpha, just like my father is today." Layla told him, sighing softly. "So is my Uncle Lucifer."

I nodded,"I have heard of Talon, and all of the stories were wonderful... I bet he is up there. My dad has to be up there, he was a wonderful alpha. He ended a war, that would have killed two packs... Durnal will be up there, I can be sure of that... Do you want to be up there?"

"Yes, Talon's stories are great. You know, he gave his life to save his pack. And to save my father... My father will be up there guaranteed. I don't know if I want to be up there. Some of the finest warriors are up there too." Layla replied.

I nodded,"Yes, I know. I dreamed of being like Talon when I was a pup. I was going to be beta back in my old pack, but never got the chance... Of course you'll be up there, your to smart and to good of a warrior not to be..." I said stretching, and laying down. I was past cold, sop the rain didn't bother me. I was numb, and liked talking to someone I could relate to.

Layla rolled her eyes. "No Alpha is like Talon. But there isn't one like my father either. I guess I could be up there." Layla said softly, looking up at the darkened sky.

I smiled,"No, but I'm sure you'll be up there. And so will my aunt Juliet, and my brother Lichen. Even if he isn't to good, he always tried. I try to be good, but my temper gets in the way sometimes..."
