Unlike most boys his age, Jakob is quiet and polite. He hates it whenever his classmates disrespect teachers and other adults, but he really dislikes people who are quick to judge and use others to get what they want.

When he was just a boy, fifth grade at most, Jakob's father abused his mother. One night, when he had had his fill of his drunk dad, Jakob ran off. He was just about to turn around and go back home when he ran into Lucifer. The devil offered him a deal. If Jakob sold his soul, Lucifer promised him his father would not hurt him or his mom ever again. He was hysterical, dazed, and therefore agreed. Anything to end this madness, he thought. Early the next day his father was killed on his way to work. Jakob convinced himself everything was a coincidence, and he had dreamed the encounter with the devil. Now, though, he knows the deal wasn't just some trick of the mind..
