Tangerine
Tangerine was her favorite fruit, maybe because that was her name. She found the fruit addicting though, having 3-5 of them wherever she want. Her mom used to tease her saying that's how she got her orange hair. Her mom was a blonde, her dad with normal brown hair. It grew long and fast, but she liked to keep it short. She always thought of herself having gifted hair, so she would donate it to a wig maker downtown. It was also important to have short cut hair, since she would take short trips to the Pentagon, or another branch of government.
She wasn't really a spy, but she had done several sleeper missions in corrupt companies and hacked into a few Fortune 500 companies and monitored their emails. She's also made a few programs that have been a time saver in the cyber security field. She sat on the patio in her assigned house. She was stationed here less then a week ago, fed info from carefully hidden messages in seemly normal packages. She also set up an intelligence base, as instructed from her boss. She was investigating several rumors circulating that an outside source is experimenting with biological life forms. She was instructed to close the program, if there was any, before the media gets a taste.
It was simple, yet a boring task for her. She would just lose an x amount of days that she could never get back. But it was her job, and she complied. She wasn't all old and a sociopath like some on her 'masters', she found them interesting and yet sadist. 95% of them had some power/god complex, but they did there job. She was just laying under the couch, putting it side ways so that she could install something in the carpet. It was given to her to monitor microwaves and anything that happened to be made in the city. A monitor was already on the cell towers, which were hard to see even if you climbed the tower.
The information would be sent back to center that would process it, since it was a big city. She carefully inserted face up, to the concrete floor under. It was coated in flexible rubber, and was black. She lifted up the soft white couch, and stood back as it landed with a thud. It was only 6:42am, and the first day was always the longest. She checked the house, looking in the bathroom, which was nice, and especially cheeking the fridge. She made a note to shop and get a stockpile of tangerines, and finally went to unpack. She had only 4 pairs of shoes, each one having to show their purpose to be kept for more then a dinner party. First was a bright blue tennis shoe with grey outlines. She liked it for more than it's looks, as it had a deep spots under the insole. It wasn't useful for any weapons, but it held small paper without so much making a sound.
Next were the shoes for formal events, and were 2 inch heels. She had higher ones, but she soon began to dread the thought of running in them. They didn't have a secret compartment or anything like that, but were easier to run in then something that had. There were shining silver, having soft threads of lace wrap around her foot, with a white rose at the end. She wore it when she was at formal events, and even helped her in certain situations.
The 3rd shoe was a flat, having red and white sideways stripes going through it. She kept those as a present from her mother that she gave her when she was 16. She still keeps them, even though they only serve as a memory. The last shoe was black leather, and had orange laces to go with it. It was tough and firm, and had a thin pocket inside.
She liked to keep Swiss Army knifes in it, but normally had nothing in it. She quickly put everything into smooth, dark wooded wardrobes. She had 3 bags, most of them full of clothes. They were black, of course. Once she was done folding the clothes in, she tried to put them into the back of her walk in closet. It was in the bathroom, but the bags couldn't go in neatly. She would go into neat moods, then would just grab her laundry and try to stuff it in. "Fuck.....you......bags!" She yelled as she threw the biggest one in the corner, and walked out of her closet. She slammed the door, her orange hair covering her face. She quickly picked out an outfit, and went to take a shower. By now it was 7:10am, and she hope she could leave at 8.
Now that she was dressed, she could finally leave. Today would be her official investigation on the lab she heard about. She had black pants that went to her knees, with a black t-shirt covered with a light grey jacket. She found the shades of grey were here favorite to wear, but weren't her favorite color. The jacket feel below her waist, with 2 buttons left open. She curled her hair, leaving two bangs curled down to her cheek. She wrapped her hair in a bun, then opened the door to the bright light. She stood in the light for a moment, feeling her fingers warm up. Her tennis shoes started to warm up as well, so she quickly jumped into her car. She had, a black Tahoe with heavily tinted windows. Even thought it could use more color from her, It was mandatory. She closed the door, and quickly started it. She backed out, and headed for the town only a few blocks from her house.
She took a few right and left turns, and she found the opposite of a sleeping town. There was mild traffic at one or two intersections, and a huge, level park. She could see straight through it to the street, which she hadn't expected. It was bright green with few trees spotted along it, providing mild shade under playgrounds. She parked in the parking lot next to it, and stepped out smoothly. She put her glasses on, normal black n' black glasses. She wore a lot of black today, which she now noticed. She chuckled, seeing her outfit. It looked like it was going to storm, so maybe she did dress for the occasion. H
er reports said that it was in the grimy part of this seemingly nice town. She walked across the road to an ice cream shop, and was greeted as she took in the red and brown tiles on the wall. She then noticed it was a frozen yogurt place, then went for a cup at the counter. The employee's seemed busy, since the store didn't have any chairs and people streamed out. She read the sign, realizing why it was so busy. "Buy a large cup size and get a free small cup till 9am." She said to herself, taking a moment to consider the flavors. She made sure to grab a small cup, and went for the chocolate. It was barely 1 and a half inches wide, and what seemed like centimeters deep. They must be making a fortune off these things. She filled her normal cup with vanilla. She added a lot of whip cream, being careful of not wanting it to touch the food. These places always had kids touching everything, and people reaching in for things. She added some sprinkles to both, and then put cocoa pebbles in her vanilla bowl. She finally made her way to the counter, the it was weighed and she got out her card and swiped it. Only then did she notice she was charged $8 dollars. She made a sigh and signed, then left the store.
It was more humid out then when she left, and the parking lots seemed a lot clearer now. She spotted her Tahoe 2 blocks away. "For fucks sake." She said, keeping her voice low. She gulped the small bowl, leaving nothing but brown stains on the sides. She crumbled it up and threw it in the trash, then made her way for her car. She barely made a dent in her normal bowl when she made it to her car. She started it up, and made her way to the investigation site. Once she got there, she quickly jumped out and saw the building. The block had red brick apartments, with small houses spotted among the tree's. Then she noticed at least 5 houses burned down, and turned around to see the building. "Hmph." She said, studying it carefully. It was small and covered in blocked windows, and wasn't inviting. The wind moved the bushes, and she quickly turned around. She looked around her, and it was silent. She spotted a few lit windows in houses, but it was quiet. She walked over the building, feeling like it had an underground staircase.
She went inside, mostly because it had started to rain, and she hated being wet with semi-dry clothes on. She felt her gun around her waist, and heard voices among the stairs. She nearly jumped, and went up the stairs. She could see a person coming from the basement, wearing a surgical mask around his neck and scrubs. She made her breathing soft, not making any sound whatsoever. She put a recorder under her ear, and crouched behind a old wall. "The product isn't ready, It needs more tests!" He put his hand to his forehead, stopping by a blocked window. "No I can't ship em'! Little fuckers run too much, give me migraines." He started to turn around, heading for the stairs again. She started to breath normally to make sure she could run if she had to. She synced her breathing with his yelling and footsteps. "How the hell would I know? Someone must' have tipped them off. Oh so your tracking one of the teams right now?" His expression became serious, and a loud crying sound came from the basement. "SHUT UP!" His voice boomed down the stairs, and the noise stopped. "I'LL TEACH YOU TO MAKE NOISES LIKE THAT!" Veins popping out of his neck, she suppressed a chuckle.
"No no no. An investigator is here? I might sick on of em' once I can get the little fuckers obedient." He said with a smirk on his face. Her presence was already known, she didn't expect them to be this suspicious. She started to hear noised from above her, and the man continued with his phone call. She was stuck here, not knowing if she should risk being exposed, but she was stuck. She felt the fear energize her limbs as it sounded like it was slowly climbing down the stairs, either trying to sneak or trying to stalk. "Shit shit shit shit...." She tried to find a way out, but their were no windows. She took a silent breath, and weighed her options. She would only risk the investigation if she had to, and they might not know he identity, or have the right one. She felt the noises slowly creep up, still thinking. "Douche bag luck I guess." She mouthed, and began to move.
