Under the Sun ( Open, Mature )
( This topic starts after another topic in the Garden of Plenty. People from that post know where it takes off, and others are welcome as well. )
The desert seemed to shimmer and dance before the eye, a hazy mirage that denied its true existence. The black Stallion's long legs drove into the hot sand strongly, pushing his way over the sand dunes and flinging sand up in his wake. A light sweat had broken out over his body, but it was more from exertion than heat, as he had been running for a long time. Finally, he drew to a stop at the top of the sand dune, tail flagged, head held high, nostrils dilated widely to reveal the fine red inner lining. He became completely still, aside from his slightly labored breathing, his keen eyes taking in the territory he had claimed as his own. He had been gone for a while now, and a part of him had begun to worry that another may have come to steal his home, but the wind revealed no extraordinary scents.
Flinging his head back, Athair ar an Diabhal lifted onto his hind legs, shaking his heavy cranium roughly so his mane flew from side to side. Opening his black maw, he let out a deep throated bugle, before landing with a thud back onto the sand. Falling silent again, he waited for a response. Aside from the quiet whinnies of the mares who had come with him, there was no answer. Snorting quietly, he turned back around to face the small band of mares be now had, ears pricked forward. He whiskered to them, his voice much gentler this time. It had taken a while to get them all here, and he knew they must be tired and thirsty from not only traveling to the desert, but traveling through it to get to the heart of the land where he resided. But the streams and ponds and trees and grasses were not far now; as he stood on the sand dune, he could see the shady place.
Lowering his head to sniff at the ground for a moment, he began his descent down the hill, towards his band. All they needed was to go past this final dune, and travel just a bit further, and they would be there. He was pleased that they had all done so well; it seemed desert life had come fairly easily to them so far, and they were still going pretty strong. Of course, after living in green fields and endless plains, it would take a bit longer to adjust, but he knew they would be able to.

Re: Under the Sun ( Open, Mature )
The desert had proven to be amazing much more then she'd except and more beautiful. The mare ran with the herd staying up in the front the whole time her long legs stretching far then returning to her barrel then he stopped. Merra looked to him and watched. As he came back down she let a soft nicker out asking, "Are we there?" She had never run so far in such a sort time in her life and for once was aching from running. The little mare looked to him smiling as all ways her dull but pretty bronze coat glinting in the blazing sun. The mare had a decent sweat but not a horrible bad one. "I could go for some water." Merra wasn't the one to complain but she'd do it when she was tired, merra still like a foal energy wise never settled till worn out badly. The mare climbed up the sand dume her stallion had just went on and gasped to see the not to far off beautiful site in front of her. "So this is home?!" She said revving in some ways Merra still had some maturing to do and some found this annoying but she was usually quite and calm.

The blue roan mare trotted down the hill with the rest of her band, her long black tail streaming out from behind her. Sweat coated her neck and her nostrils flared. Belle felt she could collapse any minute now if she didn't feel water rushing down her throat. She ran along all of the other broodmares, her foal beside her. The small bay foal flared his nostrils and whined. Belle still had not found a name for her foal. He was only a week old, but she had no name in her mind that could possibly suit him well.
Belle whinnied as the band stopped at a watering hole. She drank with loud gulps, every drink refreshing her. She swayed her tail gently and looked over at her foal who was suckling. She nudged him gently and looked over at the leader standing on the sand dunes. She turned her attention back to scrounging for any bits of grass.

Fantazcha let out a muffled sigh when they arrived, glancing up around her. She smiled with excitement. She let out a neigh of happiness and bolted forward. Bucking out with her powerful hind legs. She stopped and clicked her hoof in the air as she reared up high. Hooves kicking out fiecrely into the mid-air. Landing lightly on all-fours, she whirled around slowly. An odd scent hit her, making Fantazcha sneer and look up at a sand dune. The sand around her flew up, flnging to her. Then she shook, muscles rippling beneath her glossy coat. She glanced at the blue roan mare adn the foal next to her, she sighed heavily. Wishing she had a foal, but shrugging her shoulder. Fantazcha turned over towards Athair, he beckoned his tail up at the sand dunes. Trotting back over to him, she bobbed her head. Beautiful broad-shoulders and a fine body -slim and slender- monovering(lol dunno how to spell it) herself over to him. " Mare and foal, over there." She said, dipping her ehad up at them.

~Phoenix~
Phoenix glidded easily over the scorching sand. Her mane dancing with her every step, and a light sweat covering her back and under her mane. The young mare snorted and flung her noble head high, whinnying as Athair reared up and bellowed into the wind. At that instante Phoenix knew that she was home, and even through she herself had never been to the desert, her pulse thickened and her stride quickened as hundreds of years of ancestory blood and instincts coursed through her entire being.
The bronzed mare cantered over to their stallion as he decended down the dune, her wiry muscles rippling under her coat and her inquisitive eyes wide with exitment. She slowed to Athair's pace as she came along side him, throwing her her in a small circle before nickering to him and nudging him on the shoulder. Phoenix jumped forward quickly, so that he was inline with her shoulder and mischeviouesly ( ) looked back at him through the corner of her eye, entisingly smiling before dashing off as Fantazcha sped past. The young mare quickly caught up but skidded to a sudden stop when she saw the blue roan mare and her little foal.
Phoenix's body tensed, her ears pricking forward and her nostrils flared as she watched the mare and the rest of the intruding herd. Her tail flicked slightly to the side before she spun around, almost to quickly, and dashed after Fantazcha and back to Athair. She jumped up in a tiny rear several times whil she waited for her friend to finish speaking, "Ahh! Ahhh! AHHH! Did you SEE thoes other horses?" she quickly spat out anxiously, "I mean, ahh u, oh i think you should just take a look" and with that she spun back around and cantered towards the other herd, hoping Athair was right behind her.....

Re: Under the Sun ( Open, Mature )
( Agh, sorry, I thought I had posted the post a while ago ^^ Good thing I wrote it in my notebook and still have it. )
The black stallion snorted, lowering his dished face slowly to the ground. Small bursts of sand scattered beneath him as he breathed deeply, feeling perfectly at home under the hot sun. The mares in his herd had now grouped around him, and he slowly lifted his head back up to look around him. It seemed as though the horses were the only living creatures in the desolate desert land, but Athair knew better. Even now, he could smell the wild ground squirrels and rabbits hiding in the few bushes and underground dens, and every so often a lizard or scorpion would scurry past. Overhead, he caught sight of a falcon drifting lazily, her wings outstretched, only pumping them up and down every so often, seemingly content to just glide on the warm air currents and watch all that happened below from above.
Dipping his head once, he whickered softly to the band, before he turned back towards the sand dunes. He was anxious to be back at the little creek, and he kept the mares and foal moving at a brisk tot, even though he knew they were tired, and he made certain none were left behind. It wasn't much later when he let them slow once more, and walk the last few remaining yards to the bit of wildlife standing so out of place amongst the shifting sands, surrounded by large yellowstone and limestone cliffs and walls.
Coming to a stop when all four of his fetlocks were submerged in the water, he pricked his ears forward to watch as the mares stopped as well. Once he was satisfied they were all there and in good shape, he, too, lowered his black mug to the water to the water to drink.
Although the stream ran through the desert, it was shaded by the sandstone cliffs, and was wide, cutting deep into the earth and rock. In fact, it seemed to be more of a small river in some places than a stream, and Athair suspected it came from the high, cold mountains towards the distance. Where the herd was now, the stream was at one of its' widest, being right on a bend, and was fairly calm. Trees and bushes grew alongside it, providing shade and shelter, as well as the sandstone walls, and the sand from the dunes had given way to dirt, which provided all that was needed for plentiful wild grasses to grow.

Re: Under the Sun ( Open, Mature )
(Oh, I didn't know this had been posted! And I haven't even posted her pic yet! Lemme just grab it: )
Imia looked up slightly, her short, stubby legs galloping when they were cantering, and she cantered when they trot, she sighed and blew her mane out of her eyes, until he stopped, she sighed in relif and waalked towards the water, breathing heavily, then she laid down in the water and rolled around in it slightly, before drinking finally, she sighed and walked over to the other mares before lowering her head to the ground, there was a slight, summer wind that ruffled her creamy coloured mane slightly, and mane her step to the left slightly "Good thing I shed my winter coat..." she sighed, shaking all the water of her hide that she had rolled around in, before looking at the wonderful view that was now called home. Even though, she was quite small, she was really quite tall for her breed. Her black head swaying gently in the breeze.
