Re: The Soaring of a Blue Jay (Mature)
Jay only shied away from the stallion, keeping her head down as she approached him at a trot. She stopped at his flank, still as nervous as filly could ever be. "You say you don't want company... But your heart seems to want it more than ever right now..." she smiled faintly, letting it disappear in a fraction of a second after it appeared. Her head rose slightly, growing a little situated with the stallion and growing comfortable around him. "If you want me to go..." she murmured, stopping it there.

"No, you may stay, you're right." He smiled back at her, remebering his mate's words when they had their first colt. If either of us die, you or I must promise to move on and find another....

Re: The Soaring of a Blue Jay (Mature)
Jay pinned her ears to her skull, feeling slightly awkward next to the stallion. "The lost of your mate must be terrible... Of course I wouldn't know that feeling. But I do know the feeling of losing someone you love." her memory jolted back to her harsh childhood, screams filled her head and bangs of fire sticks tore at her ear drums. She shook her head from side-to- side, trying to forget the fateful memory.
All of a sudden a big rumble called out. Jay swung her head, searching for where it came from, then it came again. She looked down swiftly and realized it was her stomach. Her cheeks blushed red but not visible through her gray fur. "Umm... Wanna get something to eat?" she grinned nervously at the male. Jay didn't know his name, and she knew he didn't know hers so she couldn't call his formally.

He chuckled at the growl. "Yes, of course. I haven't eaten since.... since she died." Arrow flicked his tail, motioning for her to follow. He ran about a half a mile away, coming upon a lush green meadow with many wildflowers.

Re: The Soaring of a Blue Jay (Mature)
Jay blushed again and tilted her head to the side, hoping to hide her embarressment at her obvious hunger. Her emotions longed out to make him feel better after he spoke of his captured, maybe even dead, mate. In her heart she knew he was lonely and depressed but on the outside she felt like he needed to be left alone. Her mind debated against the urge to follow him as he ran ahead but ending in the forced agreement to follow the stallion.
It didn't take long for the mare to be striding next to the male, with her long legs it worked quite well at how she could keep up with him. She slowed to a trot at the smell of a flowery scent hit her with so much force she knew a field of flowers awaited them after the treeline ended. Jay entered into the sunshine filled meadow and immediately feeling the tickling of flowers and tall grass itching her legs. She gaped at how beautiful the one field looked, how lush with green plants and with all colors the flowers contained around them even with some mixed colors like white and purple, blue and green, even some yellow and red.
Jay was overwhelmed by it all, at the top of it how handsome the unnamed horse looked in the middle. She fluttered her eyelashes, sighing and instantly relaxing with the light-headed feeling she was getting from flowers. She strode up to the stallion, hoping this one question wouldn't be foolery. "What is your name if I may ask?"

The way she moved, talked and looked, he couldn't help but be stunned. "Arrow." He said, tail whipping at pesky flies. The smell of flowers stung his nostrils, but in a good way. "She looked so much like you...." His words sounded as if he was in a daze. "I-i'm sorry, that... oh never mind."

Re: The Soaring of a Blue Jay (Mature)
Jay grinned in a friendly way at Arrow. Loving the feeling that she finally knew his name..."My name is Jay." her forelegs dipped slightly, bowing at the stallion. She couldn't stop repeating his name in her head, Arrow... Arrow... Arrow... Arrow.... She snapped back to attention when he spoke out his own thoughts. The mare flinched back from the stallion, pricking up her ears and widening her eyes at him with the situation.
The tension in the air had turned dangerously high with the words spoken and thought. Jay took one side-long glance, hearing something suddenly but forgetting it as Arrow suddenly blurted out his apologies to her. She stood still for a second, thinking it through. After a minute that felt like a eternity, Jay stepped forward and pressed her crown against his shoulder slowly and giving the stallion plenty of time to resist. Jay stepped back from his body, looking up into his eyes. "It is alright... I am not offended and I hope you don't regret what you said before..." she glanced at him for a second then passed him without another word. The mare walked further into the wide meadow, lowering her head down to nibble at the stems of grass poking out of the ground and occasionally nipping at flower petals.
The sharp sounds from earlier seemed to become more frequent, and louder. Jay pricked her ears as far as they could go and glanced up almost every ten seconds for danger. The stallion wasn't showing any signs of hearing it, he hadn't followed he and stood in the exact same place as before.
Jay whipped her head up as she heard the pound of hooves on the ground suddenly from the far side of the meadow, she had never heard the thundering sound before as a loner. Her eyes widened and she reared up onto her hind legs and let out a frightened whinny at the sight of a line of horses with pale-skinned humans hoisted on their backs. "Arrow! Run!" she turned on her hind legs, running in the opposite direction of the humans. Jay silently hoped Arrow would notice and follow after her before the pale-faces caught up.

Arrow perked his ears, darting beside Jay when she said run. "Go!" He ordered, skidding to a stop. He watched the pale faces emerge, and fear overtook him. What if there were more? "Jay! Keep going!" He neighed, starting to follow her again. His breathing was heavy, after all, that mare was fast! His silky mane cascaded down his neck as he nudged her on, hoes pounding the soft earth. "Just, run."

Re: The Soaring of a Blue Jay (Mature)
Jay looked back at him, seeing him frozen to the ground like ice. She slammed her hooves against the ground to stop herself, sliding a few more feet before she did a U-turn and ran back to Arrow. "Move Arrow! Come on!" but before she even finished her sentence he headed in her direction at full speed. She sprung her hind-legs up and turned once more in the opposite direction. Except this time, everything went wrong... Her leg caught against a rock lodged into the ground, making her leg twist. Jay cried out in pain at the sound of bone cracking against the air between the joints. She pulled her leg away from the rock and pressed it against the ground. A stroke of pain shot through her nerves, making her flinch. The4 mare shook her head, clearing away the dizziness and running forward again despite her twisted ankle.
Jay cursed under her breath as she fell back while Arrow passed her by. She was starting to limp and the humans were catching up with their horses running at full speed. She knew she wasn't going to make it to the shelter of the trees, and apparently the humans had sensed it as well since they had their ropes out of their hands. A long deep sigh crossed her lips when she stopped with her leg throbbing from the exercise it had been given. Jay turned right on her good leg and faced the pale beasts, holding her hind-leg up to avoid contact with the ground.
The humans came around her, lifting their ropes and swinging them across so they would land neatly around her body. Jay dodged two ropes that aimed for her neck, letting them land harmlessly onto her back but not escaping a third as it looped and tightened around her exposed hoof. She roared, placing her ankle down for the second time to rear up at her attackers. Only when it happened did Jay know she had made a horrible mistake, the humans had snickered evilly then threw their ropes up again, but this time not missing their marks with her in the air. By the time the mare got back down to the ground she had a large rope around the base of her neck that cut into her flesh and another rope set tightly around a foreleg on the opposite side of her twisted ankle. All of a sudden the human turned their halters and backed up their horses, making the rope around Jay's legs pull away from each other. Jay lost her balance and crumbled to the ground, neighing sharply at the impact and grunting softly. After another set of rope attached itself to her left hind-leg she turned onto her side and tried to regain her feet. Once again the humans pulled against their horses halters and stretched out the ropes around her, and she found she couldn't move her legs with them pulling so harshly.
Jay kicked out at the ropes with her remaining hoof lunging at the thread with her head as well since no rope had made it's way to control it. Where's Arrow? Her worries turned away from herself while she looked around for the big stallion. He wasn't in sight of the meadow, or at least the part she could see through the legs of horses on the ground. Her eyes flashed with anger at the flash of rope in front of her face and the tightened grip around her neck again while they placed a loop of thread just below her cheeks. Jay roared out in distress, struggling her one leg with the rest of her body unable to move.
The mare's eyes widened as one of the male humans leaped down from his horse and ran to her. She was take by surprise when the boy leaped onto her neck and smashed her head to the ground. She could feel him silently tying thicker ropes around her muzzle and ears to create a cage-like pattern of thread around head. While he had held her down another had leaped off his equine to help the boy tie up the rest of the mare, but release her from the ropes tangling around her legs.
The men leaped back and as soon as they moved away Jay leaped to her feet, snapping at the men. Another rope from the opposite side fastened around her neck as well, holding her still as the boys cautiously moved back to their horses. The leader snapped the reins of his horse, letting forth a shout of triumph and blasted forward on his stallion, with the rest of the group hustling forward. The two men holding the ropes around her neck stepped forward, dragging her along with them as well.
The small herd of men and horses traveled day and night to a place where Jay had never or heard of. She nickered softly, as they approached a ranch-of-a-kind building. Pens stood around the facility with other horses grazing in the corrals. Jay pricked her ears and looked at the horses, they seemed to be separated by gender in two huge pens. The frightened mare had started to limp again with the long walk they had made to this weird and strange land. She flattened her ears to her head and whined softly, not liking the atmosphere or the mood of the building.
Jay had expected to be taken to the large pen but was taken to a different one with no horse at all, leaving her all alone. She strained against the ropes as the two men pulled and pushed her forcefully into the the tiny fenced in area. When they finally made her get into the far end of the circle the man inside tied his and the other's ropes around a wooden post in the middle then left the corral, closing the gate behind him. The men disappeared from sight, leaving Jay to wonder what would happen to her.
