The Soaring of a Blue Jay (Mature) Empty The Soaring of a Blue Jay (Mature)

Post by Guest Fri May 27, 2011 7:42 pm

Jay trotted across the plain, not a care in the world. With her head high and her spirits in the most happiest she had ever been it just made the day perfect. Her tail flapped with the strong winds as they blasted against her coat. The sun was setting from her glorious day and she was seeking shelter. Her legs brushed the tall, bending grass as her grey coat shimmered from the glare of the heat circle. Her high spirits had been cause by her great luck in finding a beautiful stream and playing in it all day long then finding a whole apple orchard, ending the day with a great feast of fruit.

The filly was young, around her mating years but not quite. Jay had no worries over stallions since her heat would not come until her 3rd year. She kept her speed at a trot but sped up as the sun descended under the land and Jay not being able to see any known shelter for miles. Her thoughts turned from happy to dark thoughts of the night. There maybe no stallions but there sure were night predators, wolves, coyotes, and even humans never hesitated to take down a long equine in the night's shadows.

As the sun disappeared and the moon's light shown on the Earth, the mare had still not found a shelter for the night but thankfully finding a decomposing tree trunk in the midst of the grassland. She settled down on the shadowed side of the log and tried to rest, but at every noise her ears flicked while her neck stretched to find the host of the noise. Her eyes stared fearfully at the tall grass, remembering how she pranced in it only hours ago while at this moment she feared it dreadfully. Jay settled her head softly in the ground, tucking her legs under her and trying to slip into nothingness.

Gender: Stallion
Age: 4

Arrow smiled at the moon, relived of the horrible heat of day. The stallion had claimed a clearing with a large tree trunk a little ways off, where he had always slept, except for the past month when he had to travel with his mate, who had been taken by humans. For once, he was finally returning and couldn't wait to get to his wonderful bed. A small scent trail was going along the border of his territory, but he ignored it.

Once he saw the decomposing trunk, he sighed happily, but noticed the scent of a mare on the wind. Slowly and silently, he watched the rather pretty mare, but couldn't think of love after his his mate had been taken. "I believe you are trespassing miss." He coughed and watched her with sad eyes. The moon shown almost like a spotlight on his wonderous coat. "And I have just traveled a long journey, lost the love of my life and tripped and ended up in a stream in the middle of a mature group of stallions and was the laughing stock of the day. I am grumpy, heart broken and will provide another sleeping place for you."

Jay whipped up her ears at the voice and shot her head in it's direction, breaking from her trance in sleep. "I-I-I'm very sorry sir! I d-didn't know this was your property," she lifted herself to her feet, backing away slightly. "-I leave right away..." her voice shivered and staggered with suprise by the stallion's secret entrance. Jay didn't know what he would do to her but she knew not to try a stallion's paitence with the suffering he had endured.

"No no, I will give you a place to sleep but I want to sleep in the place first met my mate." He looked at her with calm eyes. "I have been gone for a month, my scent is long gone and I must mark again." He flicked his tail and nodded to a trail. "I know a nice little cave, warm and away from the wind." He let her take the news in and started grazing.

Jay flattened her ears, uncertain whether to trust the steed. She snorted softly, remembering what her birth mother had told her of unlawful stallions that oreyed on young mares. Her eyes drifted to te grass, her thoughts scrambling in her brain to come up with a discision.

Finally she raised her head and looked the male squarely in the eyes. "Alright." she neighed a firm voice. "If you could be so kind as to lead me to this cave before you rest?" her voice was soft and cautious, watching the stallion carefully. Jay wasn't stupid, if he planned to make a move on her she would make him lead her if she could.

He spun around and led the way towards the cave. Once there, he nodded to the inside and there was a puddle in there, clean and clear, water dripping in it constantly, creating a relaxing sound. "Once you know where you are going, you can go, but until then, you may stay here." He sighed, tears leaking from his eyes, his mate had looked like her. "Good night. Wake if there is any trouble." He turned and put his head down, and walked slowly to his stump.

Jay let her mind trust the stallion as she made her way into the cave, her hooves sending echoes of them hitting the stone below. She turned back to the stallion catching a tear fall from his cheek and land silently into the ground. She pinned her ears to her skull. The filly had no idea how to comfort the male and watched his trot away from her shelter.

Jay looked around her surroundings of the cave, finding the small puddle and it being fueled by something above that was unknown to Jay. She had found resting places that would fit her nicely inside, plus the warmth inside the cave was amazingly comforting. Jay nestled down on a weatheree rock and placed her leg under her chest or out to the side, letting her head rest on the rock surface, she fell in a tight slumber.

The sun had risen once again and brought new life to the day, the birds were chirping with the rustling leaves of rodents making their rush for food in the early morning before the day predators set out. Jay blinked open her eyes from the imense heat on her coat from the penatrating rays of the sun. She slowly got to her feet with a groan, followed by a yawn. Jay set out of the night's den and made her way to the far borders of the territory.

But unknowingly she was sending the first signs of season with her. The first signs of spring had come to her in the morning and this didn't seem to be the best situation for her. Her tail worked against her as it blew the unresitable perfume to all of the outskirts awake.

The first thing he smelled was the mares scent and he groaned in sadness. "I could stay here and die!"He whispered and reluctantly got up. There was an edition to her scent and he shook it out of his mind.

He grazed around, following the mare slowly to make sure no forcers came along to take advantage. "Don't think I'm stalking you, just keeping you safe. Forcers will try anything." He sighed and suddenly got the feeling something bad had happened to his beloved mate.

Jay turned around with wide eyes as she noticed the male behind her. She relaxed slightly as he spoke his reason for following but feared as well if he had any thoughts of his own.

She could smell the instant change in scent as she crossed over th stallion's border. She walked over the border then turned back to face the stallion with a nervous gaze. "I guess this is goodbye... I, appreciate your kindness in taking me in. I won't forget it." she kept her voice steady for the stallion, showing no trace of the dear inside her. Jay flicked her ers and narrowed her eyes, mumbling a soft goodbye and turning carefully around and heading away from his territory with her rump in front of him.

He nodded, a forlorn look in his eyes. "If you need a place to stay, come back..... soon, it gets lonely." Arrow gave her a farewell nudge on the shoulder. "I am glad you gave me company, it will be awhile until I find another mare as fine as you." He turned away, back into his own land and started grazing.

Maricale stumbled and triped over her hooves as she walked beside her mother. Maricale looked up at her mother and smiled. Her father at the head of the herd, he turned his crown slightly towards the back of his herd, calling out through the rain that poured down upon their coats. " Keep up! Don't get lost, if you do were not coming back for you!" Maricale gasped and looekd up a her mother, Rose. Rose nuzzled Maricale. " It's gonna be ok. Your father will get us to where we need to be." Her motehr explained. Maricale nodded and nippedher mtohers flank. They stoped to rest, Maricale playerd in the mud with her friends, as she was playing Maricale was blindsided. She squealed as she was pulled into the thickets and out of sight. Maricale quivered in fear, as she was being pushed away from her herd. She could hear her mother calling out for her. She tryed to whin but couldn't. She started cry out loud trying to get her father or mother to hear her....... Maricale woke up lieing beside a river. She stumbled upon herhooves. Her breathing was fast, her chest went in and out. She looked around, whipping her crown side to side. She whinned out for her mother. But no one replied. All seh could hear was the crys of birds and the slight rushing waves. Maricale kept whinning out. " Mother!!!!...... Father!!!!......." Maricale cryed out wiht sanity in her velvet voice.

YEARS LATER....
Maricale centered in. Her crown turned slightly towards a rushing water path. Shaking her coat off from dirt that clung to it. She snorted, flicking her tail to the side of her rump. Maricale smiled as the warm sun beamed down on her beautiful glistening black and whtie coat. Maricale made her way into the shadows, the branches prushed along ehr coat as she walked through the thickets. Maricale sigehd and ducked her crown down to avoide being hit in teh face by a swinging branch. She snroted and chuckled a bit before trolted otu of the thickets, and intot eh open. She looked around curiously. Her crown turned to the borth of her to see a mare and stalliong together. She stomped ehr hoof upon the earth, pawing it instantly. She nieghed loudly, rearing up and striking out her hovoes into thin-air. Maricale let out another whinny, she landed with a loud thud. Maricale snroted and trotled towards them. She stoepd only inches away, bobbing her crown up and down. Who are these horses, i have never seen them around here before...Maricale thought to herself.

Arrow glared at the new mare. He trotted over and looked down at her. "I will have you know you are trespassing, miss. I have been gone for quite a while, but it is still mine. I have just went though heart break and I don't need any other mares running around to remind me, follow that other mare, make friends, figure it out!" He whirled around and took off at a angry gallop, but suddenly realized his behavior. Slowly he returned and sighed. "I'm sorry, but unless you have no other place to go, I must run you off the territory." He nudged her towards a small stream. "But company is always welcome." He looked over at the other mare and told her to come over.

Maricale sighed and then turned toward the other mare. She dipped her crown towards her and nickered. She turned back toward shte stallion, as he nudged her toward a stream. " Maricale... Maricale is my name." She said with her beautiful velvet voice. Maricale snorted and walked towards the other mare. She stood infrotn of the mare, where the stallion had put her.

He sighed and nodded towards the clearing. "There, not here." Arrow gritted his teeth and smiled at the mare he had met the day before. "You are welcome to stay until you get things straight. I'm a loner and I am doing just fine... well, now I'm a loner with a small patch of living area. But I am going to die alone, my mate was taken from me and I am not planning on looking again."

Jay grunted, wanting to just be alone once again. It's not that she didn't mind company, it's strangers she feared mostly. Her head slowly rotated to face the two, seeing the new mare and letting out a sigh. Why me... she thought. Jay made her legs move into their regular motion and approach the horses. "I don't mean to be rude sir but I really don't feel comfortable... I'd like to keep going on my own if that's alright..." her voice shook and turned to a mumble as her worries tried to take over her brain and muscles to lure her to run away. Jay's head was lowered, letting herself be completely embarrassed in front of the two older equines. The mare rose her head high as the the other mare named Maricale set herself in front of her, Jay didn't want to show weakness to the mare.

Jay sensed the true grief from the stallion as he made his way back to the lonely den. Jay looked at the other mare once and turned to leave from the territory again. She didn't want to trouble the stallion with another mare right after he lost his mate. She had traveled alone before and could so for as long as she thought she could, which was forever. Jay never looked back at the female or the male horses and disappeared into the brush of the forest and leaving the two behind.

Jay had traveled a few miles away, scenting no hair of a horse from where she was as the moon started to show it's white glow on the trees and grass. She settled in the soft grass, under a beautiful tree while the night lured her to sleep...

Maricale looked. Up at the stallion, she turned around and said over her shoulder. " Well, I'm used to be on my own. If you wish I will be leaving now." Maricale dipped her crown, she smiled slightly and trolted off her crown droped low to the ground. Maricales breath blower out her snout. Blowing up dusts of dirt as she breathed upon the ground. Maricale thought for a moment about her mother and father. She shrugged the thought away, pulling her crown up and flagging out her tail, her mane flying out like a battle banner in the wind as well as her tail.

"You mares are so God Da** literal!" He yelled and stood, and stopped her. "You don't have to go, just ask only when you need something!" He spun around and put his head down. "Right when I don't need company it shows up but I am forced to welcome it." He whispered so no one could hear.

Jay pricked up her ears, hearing the angry whinnies even from where she was. Her head rose up but lowered as thundering hooves made their way toward her. She snuggled closer to herself as the stallion she had seen earlier rush by her denning place. Jay didn't see the tears streaming down his cheek but she could sense great sorrow coming from his body and emotions. She lolled herself to her feet and trotted after him, feeling sympathy for the poor male.
