Dusty~ Watching Cara run off, I gave Laura a stern look and reared, wheeling around and galloping to after the direction Cara went. My stamina and endurance was excellent, and soon caught the trail of Cara. I continued to gallop, trying to find her, but my search so far ended up unsucessful. I continued to follow her hoof-prints, hoping I'd run into her at one point....

Cara~

By a large oak tree I slid to a stop,panting.Sweat streaked my dark bay pelt and my thoughts were jumbled.How could Laura betray me like that,I'd never done anything to her...
My tail flicked to my flanks warding off persistant horse flies.

Dusty~ I continued to run until her scent finally made its way into my nostrils. I galloped faster and came skidding to a hault when I saw her. I gracefully cantered over to her, nuzzling her cheek. "What did you go?" I looked her in the eyes, my own eyes filled with doubt and worry.

Cara~

I turned to him,though not looking up at him."Just admit it.You love Lura just like she loves you,I'm just a obstacle a thing in her way,which she so clearly explained to me.Since I'm nuisance I left."I snorted,my cold brown eyes looking right through him.

Dusty~ I supressed a laugh at the fact she actually believed she was a nuisance. "You're not a nuisance," I said, stepping closer to her. i wasnt intimidated by her stare, but i just wanted her to know I loved her. "I used to love Laura. When I was only a colt. But...Cara...." I felt like I wasn't getting anywhere, so I looked her in the eyes and turned around, head hung low, and began to walk away. "I'm going to miss you..." I said, but she couldn't hear.

dusty~ It took me a while to get back to the others. It broke my heart that she didnt even care to call me back...to tell me to wait.....I wanted to run away with her, to be happy with her forever. Even if the herd wasn't working out exactly how we planned....Together....Together we could make it work. Now that she was gone, I guess Laura would have to be lead mare. Deep inside, the pain stabbed my heart. I let out a low whinny, letting everybody know I was back...

Once Lura watched him leave her eyes sparkled with confusion. She sighed and got slowly trotting into the den and she knew, that he no longer was in love with her. At first, she thought she saw the whole thing in his eyes. She lifted her head to hear an low whinny, but she didn't budge.

Dusty~ I walked over to Laura, my head hung low, but I brought it up, regaining my dignity. "I guess, Laura," I said, hiding my sadness inside. "You're the new Lead Mare..." I said, wondering if she was still interested. The truth was, I knew there was at least a spark that could be ignited in between me and Laura....but I'd never love anybody like Cara. I stood next to Laura, not sure whether to nuzzle her to to just stay put. I lifted my nose to hers, breathing into her nostrils softly before bringing my head away.

Dusty~ I nodded. All that was left was to reignite the spark that was still left, dying slowly. I lowered my head. "Don't think I don't love you...." I said softly, almost inaudible. "I am just in a tight spot." The wound on my chest seared with pain momentarily as I remembered its presence.

"I remember trying to tell you while Cara & I were playing tag but she tagged me and stopped me...When you had that foal with her, I never understood what happened to our love.... so I stood there waiting just thinking, Cara gave up on you but she didn't." Lura then realized something while telling him something that on her mind. "I was 2nd choose, you don't love me do you Dusty?"

Dusty~ "I......" I dropped my voice down to a whisper. "I only chose Cara because I felt that after having a foal with her, I owed it to her.....I sired a colt, and then left....I don't want to be that kind of stallion. But I realize what i did was wrong, Laura. You can reject the offer of being Lead Mare, being my mate, being everything we always wanted. But I'd rather you not...." I looked away.

Cara~

Love is like a rollercoaster,it has it's ups' and downs' but the two always love each other no matter what.Well actually life is like a rollercoaster,but my life is similar to a rollercoaster that has run off track. After exiling myself from the herd,my direction is unknown and I no longer have a purpose in life. Brutus doesn't need me as a mom,Dusty doesn't need me as a mate;he has Laura.Laura and all of the other mares in the herd no longer need me either,what use am I to them? The eerie silence of the forest was disturbed by the deathly caw of the crow,which sent shivers down my spine. Perhaps it wasn't but I took it as a sign, a sign to do something dramatic...

Dusty~ I snorted. "No. It's okay," I turned and started to walk away. "I'm used to rejection." I turned my head, but I didn't look at her. I stared at the ground below her hooves and then began to walk away again. "You can tell the herd....You can tell them....I'm leaving....This time, I'm not coming back." I began to gallop away into the forest.

Dusty~ It took me an hour to reach this calm spot. There was only a tiny patch of grass with lush apple trees surrounding it, but then the rest was forest. The apple trees were obviously planted by man, but it produced a lovely scene. I laid down in the middle and looked up at the stars that were now shining in the sky. The full moon shed light over where the herd still was -- most likely. I wanted to tell them all I loved them.....and I never wanted to leave....but i couldn't bring myself to it. I let a hot, salty tear roll down the bridge of my nose and trail off my nostril.

Lura watched him walk away. "I want you!" she cried, a tear rolled down her cheek. "No, i'm leaving too and this time for good... in Starherd." she whined and trotted over into the forest.

Lura sobbed quietly as she got to the beautiful running waterfalls getting closer to where wolves roam. She stared at it seeing Dusty's face instead of hers. A tear ran down her face as she knew she was just in an mirage. "I'm missing you so much, can't help it i'm in love...." she sung then stopped as the reflection mirage of Dusty's image disappeared replaced by her own. She trotted into the wolves roam and sat there. She heard an distant howl but she didn't care... she knew they smelt her scent. She had come here to end her life....

Dusty~ my ears flicked, I could hear somebody....were they singing? I got up, trying to forget about all my pains, and followed the voice, cantering gracefully through the trees until I saw Laura. ...what...? I asked myself, keeping an eye on her. I kept hidden, unnoticed by her. I wondered again what she was doing..

~I wake up from my sleep, feeling rested. I watched what happened, and how dusty left. "Luara." I call to her, making sure he knew my presense. It would be some time before the steam was out of my system. "I would love the herd to be together, Luara, But sometimes people are so far gone not even loved ones can hold there hand. It is his life, his choice. If he wishes to disband the herd, then I don't want to wait here for another stud to come here." I snort, feeling anxious. Maybe I could adopt an foal. "It's his choice." I say, looking at him. My face looked like part of me wanted to stay and the other part wanted me to go.

I bucked at her, trying to get her to go somewhere safe. "GO!" I reared again, pawing the air violently as i saw the wolves begin to gather on the horizon.
